I guess with the strike and backlog of orders, AA will see its first 787 around 2012 or so...

Screw the 787. They have a contingency that the orders may get cancelled if they don't settle a contract with the pilots first. Can you say "dangling carrot?"

We will not subsidize a new aircraft at AA. If they want it bad enough they will get it. Until then, FUPM, and we want our money back!!

42 firm and 58 options. That's A LOT of lift. Book value of upwards of 8B dollars. Stand firm guys, they obviously can afford to pay what you're asking for.

Interesting. I thought I just read an article saying the first 787 wouldn't be delivered until 2010 at the earliest, despite what Boeing is claiming.

If true, it's going to be a LONG time before AMR sees one.

Yes, it will be.
Wonder how long it will before anyone sees the 900?

AMR has some kind of preferential nifty deal with Boeing that gives them something like a 15 month delivery from time of signing. Obviously that's not the case here, since it hasn't flown yet, but if they say they'll deliver in 2012, that's when it'll happen.

That said... it's all contingent on the pilots' contract. And like I said above, we don't give a RAT'S ASS about 787s until we get a contract we deserve. So they can take their "contingency plan" and cancel orders all they want. If they need a new airplane that badly, they will get it - but not at our cost!

Bloomberg reports:
An initial order for 42 of the widebody 787-9s, with deliveries starting in September 2012, would be valued at $8.17 billion before any discounts.

They can afford to give you the raise you deserve.

What are they going to do for a paint job? Composites just don't polish up quite the same as aluminum...;)

Funny fin.
And yes, how long will it take for them to get the 900? That is quite aggressive since they have to still get the 800 out the door.

Correction....

They can afford to give you the raise you deserve.
....it's not a raise if you are just recovering the rates that were taken away and divided up between 743 upper-level management!

Screw the PUP, it's now about FUPM!

"The 787 purchase agreement contains provisions that would allow American to choose not to acquire some or all of the 42 initial 787s if it has not reached a satisfactory agreement with its pilots union to operate the aircraft.

GMAFB. I had to laugh when I read that. Yeah, sure, AA management. You're going to cancel your multi-billion dollar order of this extremely modern and efficient aircraft if your pilots cost you "a couple of extra dollars" in 787 rates. Right.

No doubt the APA was laughing their ass off when they read that completely transparent threat. Well AA guys, at least your management buys you airplanes and then threatens you. At our airline they do the same thing, except for the aircraft orders part.
