I hope voluntary leaves are offered before the furloughs.
OK, perhaps 17-20 is pushing it. I guess I was thinking about SWA where that upgrade time frame for pilots on the bottom of their list is more likely... Still, a very long upgrade depending on what happens to the AA fleet (although a merger could futher screw up those plans). Being in the bottom 400 at AA would be very uncomfortable and stressful anyway - most of those pilots would do better elsewhere where the growth and upgrade time is faster.
ok kit darby
What hire date would that reach if they actually did furlough 400?
Q: Will there be a reduction in the pilot workforce as a result of this proposal? If so, how many pilots will lose their jobs?
While we expect about 400 pilot reductions, we won’t have certainty on this issue until an agreement is reached. It’s important to remember that a number of factors play into the company’s staffing needs, including mandatory age 65 retirements, the new flight- and duty-time regulations that will become effective in 2014, and the lead time required to train pilots. We regularly evaluate our staffing requirements and will continue to do so, both in and out of the restructuring process.
