Hey guys, what is American and Continental Airlines policy on jumpseating from the US to Mexico. I know I'm off line, but what is the policy in the back. Thanks in advance.

Depends who you work for. AA can be a pain in the but.

If you are going to Mexico on the CAL system you have to know if you are using Express Jet of CAL. Since Express Jet does most of Mexico for the CAL system, unless it Cancune or Cozumel, you may be all set. At Express we take all 121 carriers with unlimmited JS. Hope that helps. PM me with your destination and I can help further.

Unfortunately AA considers Mexico to be under the "International rules", which is to say, only pilots from certain carriers can j/s -

Alaska
Aloha
CAL
DAL
FDX
NWA
Piedmont
Polar Air Cargo
Southwest
UAL
USAirways

and unlike domestic Limited/Unlimited seats in the cabin (D6L/D6U), all international j/s is limited (to the # of jumpseats in the cockpit.)

Good luck

Do the international rules also apply to the Delta W/O's (Comair and ASA), in addition to Delta?

It's a CASS thing.

You can jumpseat internationally on AA if you are allowed to ride in the jumpseat.
i.e. you work for a CASS participating airline.

Vaya con Dios, amigo!

Boeingboy.. are you sure about that? Before I posted above, I went into RES using the F*PSM/D6/LIST and it didn't say anything about that. All it showed was the approved carriers for domestic/int'l and the D6L/U-approved ones. The ones that can j/s internationally had a little Y next to them, which is where I got the list from. Several of them are not CASS yet.

It also said something ot the order that no offline pilots can ride the actual j/s internationally.

Troy,

Not that I am aware of - only Delta.

I stand corrected. A little more research and a little less lip on my part could've helped that...but then looking around this board I'm probably not alone...

Good catch.

I JSed from Mexico...

I am not on that list and had no problem getting the JS on American out of Mexico City. You have to pay the departure tax at the ticket counter and if the flight is full will have to get a refund and pay the tax again for the next flight. That is the only problem that I saw.

My current company is on the list, but not the CASS list. Being furloughed from AA made no difference, no extra help, never even came up.

Continental Mainline considers Mexico to be international. We can't even jump on them internationally, and we codeshare with CO. Nice.

Continental Express will take you, though.

I off-line jumpseated out of Cancun on AA in Jan of 2003.....but I know things are constantly changing......had to talk to two people, but finally convinced them that we are allowed to jumpseat Mexico, the Carribean, and Canada.

CO took me as an offline jumpseater out of Puerto Vallarta to IAH April 2004.....same thing, had to be persistant about the Mexico, Carribean and Canada thing.

I don't know what the offical word is on these airlines...but after much patience, both sorted through all the bull on the computer and found where it said I could go.

Easy rides to Mexico are America West, Alaska, and Pace ( all unlimited jumpseats) and Northwest ( I believe 3 off line jumpseaters).

Have fun.......AD

I guess there's nothing to lose by trying, right?

I think it is easier to sweet-talk gate agents outside of the US, especially Latin America. Especially if you can do a good Cheech imitation....

mcpickle,

I thought at CAL and Express we are still not allowed to take international jumpseaters right now. Remember the FIL that came out last summer (?) and word coming from CAL about this? I remember it having something to do with the way jumpseaters are (or should I say are not) listed in the computer system on flights. TSA directive necessitated international jumpseats being stopped until the issue was resolved concerning the computer program. I could be wrong but I haven't seen anything saying international jumpseats are allowed under the CAL umbrella again.
