Where did you get those retirement numbers?
I cheated: I got them by doing a search here.

Anyone care to speculate regarding the LCC industry consolidation and how AWA might be involved . . .
AWA wants more Right Coast coverage. You guess what that means...
...is this good or bad for the pilot group?
Usually bad.
How is the morale in AWA's cockpits?
Pretty good.

So what are the prospects for long term employment / job security at AWA? Do you foresee furloughs?

I have relatively stable employment and make a decent wage, but AWA is calling my name . . .

Looking for good news,
2slo

ifly2slo,

Those are some tough questions. Who knows? We are steadily hiring and Parker seems to be acting conservatively. However, we are losing money and fuel isn't getting cheaper.

Qaulity of life is good and you can expect to make a decent, if not great, wage. Upgrade has been running around 7 years and most captains seem to make 140-180k/year. Once you get off reserve you have the option to drop down to 40 hours per month if you prefer the time off. After a year you recieve 21 days of vacaction and lineholders seem to average 14-17 days off per month. Lots of redeyes and you might end up in Vegas where it is almost exclusively night flying. Great group of pilots to work with. If you do take the job I would recommend the Bus unless you want to sit reserve for an extended period of time. Good luck.

Getting 21 days of vacation after a year- does that mean you are guaranteed 21 days off in a row during one month in which you have your only vacation for the year or do you get to split up those vacation days and take them in more than one month in addition to your normal days off.

Formula1: you bid for your 21 vacations days by week so you could conceivably get 21 in a row -- or two weeks here and one week there -- or just one week three separate times.

I only worked half of 2004 but I still get two weeks vacation this year, and I got them consecutively like I bid.

Green,

I was just wondering what you ment when you said that you can drop down to 40 hrs. once off probation. Does that mean you have to drop all the way down to 40 hrs. or can you drop down to somewhere in between regular line time and 40 hrs.? Do you give your trips up to anybody that will take them? Is it on-line?

Thanks

fellows,

You can drop down to 40 hours in a month once you are off reserve (doesn't have anything to do with probation). Right now you can expect to be on reserve for less than a year unless you get the 737 or 757. You don't have to drop all the way down to 40 but you cannot go below that value. It works online through the maestro system and as long as they have adequete coverage it will let you drop a trip or multiple trips. I am pretty new and haven't tried the system out yet, but from what I hear it is pretty user friendly. Another nice aspect of the system is that you can split your trips. Say you have a four day trip where you like the first two days but don't want the whole thing. You can dump just a portion of the trip and keep the legs you want.

Does anyone know if/when AWA is going to accept new resumes again? I know I'm probably not competitive now but I want to put my name in the hat. Really wanna get back out West. Any info wold be greatly appreciated - THX

Just received an application but no indication if a fee is required. I know a couple of years ago they required it. Can anyone confirm yea or nea?

As of a year ago they still required the $50 processing fee. It should say on the cover letter to the app. If you're not sure I would call somebody in HR before sending it in. Also, I believe the app specifically states that it should be handwritten so you won't have to worry about typing the thing. Good luck.

App fee was still required as of about a year ago. If you reside in Michigan or a few other states (I believe they're listed on the app.) you don't have to pay the fee.
