Hey guys, quick update. They told us 16 on 1/4/05 and that's it for jan. More classes in feb/mar, etc. About 150-200 newhires next year barring no major changes. Hope that helps.

Thanks for the info; I was told to prepare for the Jan 4 class but have heard no official word and we're under 2 weeks to go.

Call Tammy. I just started 12/20, and 16 for 1/4 is also what I heard. I think that others have been notified, but I can't be positive. They may have made a mistake and thought that your last conversation was official notice. I don't get the feel that the 1/4 class is in Jell-O; it is going forward and they know who is in it. Good luck!

You do know we have a 2-hour callout, right?

After I got the job, I received a letter telling me which I class I was in and that I was to call and tell them that I would be there (RSVP). This was many years ago, so things may have changed.

Cheers, and welcome to the Cactus Plant!

Congrats!

Hey Reepicheep,

Congrats on the "official" class date... I am also in the 12/20 class, and it was a while before I knew for sure what was going on, so can understand the pain of the waiting game!

Its well worth the wait though... everyone we have met so far has been outstanding and a class act, ... you are gonna like it here.....

Don't listen to PHXFLYR. He's definetly not gellin'. Much better than any other flying gig I've had from charter to regional. :D

Thanks for the recognition, reepicheep. Appreciate it!:)

Hope you enjoy your new home here at AWA. You won't get rich working here
but then again, you won't find a more finer bunch of disfunctional aviators anywhere. From what I remember about you "mainline guys" from my days at a USAIR WO,you should fit right in!!;) But seriously , been here 7 1/2 years , can hold Capt if I want. The guys I have flown with out on the line in both the 737 community and now the Airbus are an absolute pleasure to fly with .Very few egos, just a bunch of guys and gals who want to go out get the job done and have a good time while doing it . Of course we have our 5% or so, but fourtunatley for us , 4 1/2% of them are assigned to the 757!:D

Saabslime's right. I have a tendency to be a little hard on the company with some of my posts. But that's because I think they are capable of doing better in some areas and get a little tired of them always taking the cheap way out. But I guess as long as we have Xanderman and Whiskey Driver to keep me from going off the deep end ,I guess we'll be all right! All in all , not a bad gig.( I think I just heard Saabslime pass out and hit the floor! :D ) Hope things are what you had hoped for. Welcome aboard and Merry Christmas to you and your family...

I second that, even thought I'm still "wet behind the ears" this place is definately better than I ever had at the regional level, and I came from one of the best regionals. QOL man, that's what its all about, ahhh crap! I gotta go to bed, I'm starting reserve tomorrow 5am Christmas eve. Ah the joys of being at the bottom...

Happy Hollidays everybody!!

Boy, that's a good question. I think they just started the long call reserve maybe 2 weeks ago and don't know too much about it. Maybe some of the new guys and gals on reserve will be able to clear that up for you.

January is the first month for LC reserve in the 737/757 and February will be for the Bus. Only a handful will be on LC at any time, the formula is like 5% or sumthin. It's too soon to tell whether it'll be worth it or not. The way it was explained to us is that if a trip is in open time more than twelve hours hence Scheduling will pick the LC pilot first. This isn't the way LC should work; LC's should be moved up to SC (short-call) first. I guess if your commute is fairly short with several flights a day it could work, but for a distant commuter like me it's no help.

Let's break this down a little further.

.0000000000000000000000000000000000000000001% on the 737

I don't know I've been hearing some stories about you Bus guys.

The guys on the 737 are really great. We have 2 guys that write up everything they can to ground planes in the out stations, but they treat their FO's well, from what I've experienced. That's as bad as it gets. I've really flown with a great group of people so far.

My worst day at AWA is still better than my best day at my old company.

Merry Christmas everyone!

PHXFLYR I'm shocked!! (Dusting myself off the floor:D ) Nice to see that even some of the most cynical can manage to put a positive spin on working here. You may just be gellin' after all.:)

One more tidbit on the long call reserve (12 hrs). Once you are contacted for a trip by CS, at the completion of that assignment it's CS's discretion whether to allow you to go back on long call or stick you on the 2 hour call out.

..nice to see some of the most cynical can out a positive spin on working here...

HEY...don't blame me !!! It was Whiskey Driver's idea ! :D

Have a Merry Christmas!
