Aloha Airlines filed a motion today in bankruptcy court seeking a temporary restraining order against its pilots’ union after it threatened a walkout by cargo pilots over a seniority issue. Aloha is the state’s largest air carrier of goods between the islands, with 85 percent of the market.
Yesterday, on the same day that the airline shut its passenger operations, a communication to the company’s pilots from David Bird, chairman of the Aloha unit of the Air Line Pilots Association, said that the company “foolishly think(s) they can just operate cargo status quo regardless of seniority.”
In its motion, Aloha said that ALPA apparently takes the position that cargo flights should be granted to pilots based solely on seniority without taking into account those pilots’ qualifications to fly Aloha’s cargo equipment.,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
