Alaska Hiring #'s

Air Inc is saying that Alaska is hiring 15 in March and 24\mo in 2006.
Anyone want to confirm\Deny this?

Here are the numbers for the classes that are scheduled so far. Another bid supposedly will be out this summer for the rest of the year.

March - 13
April - 12
May - 8
June - 19
July - 12
Aug - 12

Just read on the CP's newsletter that Alaska excercised the option on
7 more 737-800's. Maybe replacement's for the MD-80 that is rumored to be headed to the desert sooner than later or maybe for the SEA-HNL-OGG and ANC-HNL routes which has been floating around,*&%^(*(*&%() Who knows we shall see..................
FLX is right on with the hiring #'s as of today. Lots of phone calls going out for interviews which consist's of a "board interview" with 2 HR and 2-3 Check Airmen/MGMT types. Not many sims being given that I've heard of unless lower TT or PIC.
With the new Chief Pilot there may be some changes to the process but thats about it for now. Best of luck.

392 new hires

The new chief pilot told the ANC base that there will be 392 new hires in the next two years. He just put in the order with the company store for the wings. He plans to "give" the wings out to the new hires (a military thing I guess) where as the rest of us had to buy ours ($50 taken out of our pay checks in 12 easy payments).

Also of news; there are about 230 "silver bullets" in the system. Of those 230, many are duplicates, so there are probably only about 175 on the list waiting for a phone call. The new CP will honor those currently in the system, but no new silver bullets will be accepted for a while till they get through the original batch and he has a chance to implement his own new program.

If we are doing a class of 12 to 17 a month for the rest of the year, it won't take long to go through the current stack of bullets.

This always confuses me. If they have all these line pilots reccomending well qualified pilots, why do they need to show face at the job fairs?

Whoever "they" are appear to be misinformed.

The route map is not outdated, and if/when the -200s go away, other aircraft (more specifically, cargo converted -400s) will be used on routes formerly served by the -200s.

A couple of pilots I know that were based in LAX used to fly anywhere from ANC to Mexico...quite often. I am not sure if it still that way.

after a quick scan of the bid packet for March, most of LAX flights are west coast and Mexico. Some ORD, DCA, DEN, YVR, and YYC.

The silver bullet program is rumored to go away....

It was basically a special LOR.
The pilot sponsoring you can only sponsor one person at a time.
You were guaranteed an interview...

Yes. Last month a few guys in LA got a line first month out of training. But I think they got Reserve this month.

Still beats the crap out of living in LA, to me at least. Have you seen their property values lately. Sea has longer reserve, but is a nice place to live. Anchorage is too, for at least 3 months a year. And yes reserve is one He!! of a lot better than commuting. Not even remotely comparable. On resv I have probably averaged fying 35 -40hrs a month in the last several years. Summer is right up to gurantee, winter is far far less. Our resv rules are not that good but commutting is unquestionably worse.

If you want to be on reserve, then SEA is the base for you.
From Apr to May SEA decreased the # of lines from 245 to 240.
Also from Apr to May, ANC grew from 15 to 21 lines, and LAX grew from 66 to 71.
Almost 5 years on reserve and end not in sight, and upgrading is just a distant dream!
