According with KEVIN HEALY Sr Vice President of marketing for Airtran Airways, company will now charge additional $15 for first check bag on top of the $25 already charge for second bag!!

Come on guys!! fuel is down to the mid 60's a barrel capacity and pilots are been reduce, so how bad is your financial troubles?

This summer, American (AMR) became the first large U.S. carrier to charge for checking a first bag. It has been followed in that by all its large conventional airline competitors.
United (UAUA) officials expect to generate $700 million in additional revenue from fees in 2009. Before its acquisition two weeks ago by Delta, Northwest officials were expecting an extra $250 million to $300 million in revenue this year from checked-bag fees they only began charging in midyear.

SO WHAT YOU ARE SAYING IS AIRTRAN JUMPED ON THE BAND WAGON OF JUST ABOUT EVERY OTHER AIRLINE OUT THERE. IF AIRTRAN WAS THE ONLY ONE DOING THE FEE I WOULD BE IN TOTAL AGREEMENT WITH YOU BUT NOW IT SEEMS LIKE ALL AIRLINES ARE DOING IT. (OF COURSE NOT wn) RIGHT NOT SURE BUT IT DOES SEEM TO GENERATE MONEY AS SEEN FROM THE ARTICLE.

AirTran (Bob) said they would seriously look at the first bag fee if Delta imposed it, in the last quarterly report. Well, Delta announced it and now AirTran has too. I thought it would have been great local marketing not to impose it. But its all about raising liquidity right now. If demand drops sharply in the first two quarters, look to see the ancillary fees disappearing.

delta announces the fee and hardly a peep is heard. airtran announces the fee and the world is coming to an end on cnn all day long. get real. we make money when and where we can. if pax do not want to pay the new fee, then pack light andwe will save the gas anyway.

Or add $15 to all the airfares instead of nickle and diming to death.

Darn Airtran, once again over charging the passengers! We need to lower fares and convince people to avoid luxurious airlines like Airtran!!!
