As most of you know by now, yesterday, in a special MEC meeting in Atlanta, the ATN Master Executive Council voted against sending the integration agreements to the pilot group for ratification. The MEC heard the voices of our pilots and in the end made their decision.

The MEC believes that the AirTran pilots deserve, and have a better opportunity to secure, an equitable seniority list through additional mediated talks, or if necessary, arbitration. While the economic aspects of the agreement were generous and appreciated, the agreement did not meet the standards of fair and equitable for AirTran pilots. Given the nature of the list, it is understandable that the SWAPA Board of Directors voted to send the agreement to their pilots for a vote. However, the SWAPA Board of Directors had an opportunity to view the list and the various side letters prior to any Southwest pilot having an opportunity to see the final agreement. In other words, SWAPA’s Board voted without inputs from their pilots. The AirTran pilots had an opportunity to review the complete Integration Agreements prior to the ATN MEC vote. Therefore, allowing the AirTran pilots to make their voices heard to the ATN MEC. But inevitably, the gain in seniority for SWAPA pilots was at the expense of the AirTran pilots. The unanimous SWAPA BOD vote took place after the tentative integrated seniority list had been negotiated, but almost two weeks prior to the completion of the remaining integration agreements.

Your Merger Committee understood the state of the integrated seniority list, which is why they worked tirelessly negotiating and trying to perfect the conditions and restrictions and additional terms associated with the agreement. They fought to secure protections in an attempt to balance the relative high loss of seniority AirTran pilots experienced. However, in the end, the AirTran pilots made it clear that you cannot put a price on quality of life and time with your family, and that’s exactly what our pilots would be losing under this integrated seniority list.

Notwithstanding yesterday’s vote, the MEC fully supports the Merger Committee as they enter the next phase of this process. Next week, your Merger Committee will be in Washington, DC working with merger counsel as they prepare for the next steps. The Seniority Integration Process Agreement (SIPA) calls for mediated talks through September 30, 2011. If no agreement is reached through mediated talks, the process will continue in arbitration beginning in October.

The MEC and Merger Committee appreciate your continued support and ask that the AirTran pilots remain united as we strive for the common goal – a fair and equitable integrated seniority list.

AirTran Maintenance Station Realignment
[FONT=Tahoma,Tahoma][FONT=Tahoma,Tahoma](August 10, 2011)—The Company informed Maintenance Employees today of the decision to cease AirTran Maintenance operations in Indianapolis and Boston effective June 1, 2012. Based on the demands of the combined Southwest/AirTran network moving forward, it has been determined that Maintenance can support activity in the Northern part of the country through the current operations in Chicago (MDW), Milwaukee (MKE), and Baltimore (BWI). There are currently no plans to close additional AirTran Maintenance locations. [/FONT]
[FONT=Tahoma,Tahoma]As the June 1, 2012, date approaches, Maintenance will work with each of the eight affected AirTran Employees and their Union leaders to find another AirTran location that is right for them. We thank each of these Employees for their ongoing efforts to maintain the Safety of the AirTran fleet, and our Fellow Employees join together in supporting their efforts to stay within AirTran. Relocation within the current Southwest network is not allowable at this time, due to separate unions and collective bargaining agreements. [/FONT]

I suppose even if an arbitrator picks the list, either side can still prevent the integration in-as-much as that precedent now has been set.

Yeah, like the Frontier pilots who were railroaded and forced to take it or leave it... Good job Air Tran pilots - you CAN do better via arbitration than what the SWA pilot reps have "generously" offered you.

I still love to hear the SWA guys say that Air Tran pilots are lucky to circumvent their high hiring standards. Heard it on a crew bus yesterday from a pair of SWA pilots. Hey SWA pilots, you get paid incredibly well to fly a 737 around on a regional-like route structure (with some transcon flights thrown in the mix). It ain't rocket science... and you aren't Chuck Yeager. Anyone with a few thousand hours on a CRJ/ERJ or Hawker/Citation can easily fly a 737 between PHX and TUL or MDW and ISP. Talk about arrogant...

I think you meant to say the offer that was agreed to by both MC's. Not the deal that was forced upon them by the SWA pilot reps.
 
They are doing great, Rev. Bedford is taking real good care of them....or did he say the Lord provides and ask for concessions. I can't remember now. How's the bottom of the SW list looking for them now?

Not for the newly acquired AT pilots. How many were never considered by SWA despite meeting your minimums? Now they are competing for your Captain seats. Wow - that's gotta drive you crazy and I can see why you guys would be soooooooooo upset. Your astronaut fraternity has to accept more people and can't be so exclusive. :(:bawling::bawling:

Listen to the furloughed United guy...he's savvy...he's smart...and he's most likely broke. He's really hung up on the $10,000. For him being furloughed and on probation that's a lot of bucks. But for me it was a small price to pay. I make that in less than 2 weeks. OYS more like 2 months. Keep listening to the furloughed guy. Just remember, if SWA doesn't work out for you, there are lots of other options. Just ask Burnsy........
 
It's really sad to see how the SWA guys are treating the Airtran pilots just because they didn't accept a terrible proposal. I applaud the Airtran pilots for not laying down. If they feel they are getting shafted, good for them to stick up for themselves.

DAL and NWA didn't agree in the beginning either, but it never got this nasty.

SWA guys, you must understand: Your not the king of the jungle anymore. It was a good run.

Were all in the same game. Get over yourselves.

Treat your new fellow pilots with respect, you may be pulling gear for them soon.
 
We shall see in the next week if Gary has our back. I, for one think he does. This is not so black and white as a lot of FI guys seem to think it is. My gut feeling is he has seen the writing on the wall. SWA culture crater from a long drawn out and bloody arbitrated list implementation. Or plan "B" and trust me-this contingency was already thought out. Chuck and Steve's letters looked----------- well kinda the same. Company and pilot union unity?!?! We have it here. Anyone who thought you would see some kind of NWA-Delta type list here are dreaming.
Fasten your seat belts, the next two weeks are going to be telling. Count on it.
