If we are hearing about it I'm sure it isn't true. The only airline that wasn't rumored to buy TWA was American. I heard that one on CNN when it was announced.

Makes sense, 2 all Boeing fleets merging Air Tran's east coast routes with Alaska's west coast stuff. Mergers are the future of the U.S. Airline Industry....no matter how painful it is for the pilots!

What's your source? I've heard this stuff 20 times before.

When Uppercrud went through security yesterday, a gerbil fell out of his pant-leg (again!).

This time, however, the gerbil was shaved by a quick-thinking TSA agent, and the merger plan was found tattoed on its back . . . .

This rumor is retarded but I'll say this. It would be funny (not really) if AK bought an airline that 40% of the Alaska pilots or Alaska/Horizon employees have never even heard of.

Even the SEA controllers have never heard of them.

So we are on final following a "citrus" 737 in SEA.
The FO says, who the hell is Citrus?
I say Air Tran, fly 717/737 from ATL.
FO says, yeah think I saw them in my Corp days in Toledo or Dayton. Used to be ValueJet?
I say Yes
SEA tower askes them, "so citrus? you guys like a charter from ATL or what?"

Exactly, what is your point?

Most people east of the Mississippi do not know who Alaska Airlines is. Nothing wrong with that since they do not have much of a route structure in the east. Same goes for AirTran, large route structure in the east not much in the west, so it takes time for your name to get around.

I would assume Southbound works for Horizon. I am pretty sure most people in this country have not heard of Horizon.

I also do not understand how a lot of pilots are ignorant about other domestic airlines. If you somewhat keep up with what is going on in your industry you would be familiar with most domestic airlines.
