I don't think that's the case at all....I've been reading his posts too, and I know him personally....he's not based there

Just a Jay and Silent bob joke.

And I thought guys here at xjt were wound to tight....wow.

Until the problems between AWAC Management and the Union are sorted out (which is probably never at this rate), stay away. Stay far, far away.

Peace.

Rekks

I just left AWAC.

The pilot group is great, the contract is great, the union guys work very hard for you.

Management has basically declared war on the pilots and contract. When I left the union was being swamped with grievances. Management was beignining to totally disregard the cotnract.

He's overstating the case as far as 'totally disregarding the contract'. Yes, we do have outstanding grievances, but it's not as bad as that makes it out to be. AWAC has problems currently though.

A sick call is classified as an UNEXCUSED ABSENCE. This is just begging for a lawsuit IMO. Four in a 12 month period will get you a cup of coffee with your domicile manager, 7 or more will get you fired (supposedly). Don't think they're willing to go that far (yet).

HOT rumors for an LGA base in the near future. FYI.

Sounds like XJET. I'm not kidding.

It sure does. It sounds like the program at my last employer, too, except better. (I'm not kidding, either.)

Keep in mind that the loudest people in any pilot group are the ones who like to complain. The others typically stay away from these boards or keep their mouths shut. Been at AWAC for several years and the company has never screwed me over. Always followed the contract, at least in my case. Doesn't mean it doesn't happen, but that is what the grievance committee is for and if it's a legitimate grievance, it will be taken care of. Don't commute to any airline job and most of your ability to complain will be taken away from you. If you like to complain, commute.

I've known 3 AWAC guys personally and they all got pretty unhappy after the loss of the United flying.

How can you say you never got screwed when the bases you lived in got pulled out from under you and replaced with lines that someone in the top 1/3 of the seniority list can't commute to? Hard to avoid commuting when you lived in base and then lost it.

AWAC was always the place to be, but from what I hear that isn't the case anymore.

Both XJet and AWAC have great contracts, but it seems the future is shaky. FWIW I'd always fill out the applications that don't have a commute attached to them first. Best of luck to you and all involved.

Having your domiciles change isn't called getting screwed. It's called corporate america. If you think this is the only business where relocation occurs, you must have gone to an all aviation university. Talk to people in the business world. It's the same thing. At least we have the option to commute rather than move. No, I don't feel that I was screwed when our bases closed. Rotten luck, but not screwed.

Interesting...Rankin has made that same argument to crewmembers more than once. The only problem with that is in the "business world", you not only get your move paid for but you often get a cost of living adjustment to your salary.

At least we have the option to commute rather than move.

Thank goodness for that; many of our pilots who have families in the midwest can't afford to move out east. From www.bankrate.com:

ATW-DCA: 39% higher COL
ATW-PHL: 29% higher COL
ATW-ORF: 9% higher COL

DEN-DCA: 32% higher COL
DEN-PHL: 23% higher COL
DEN-ORF: 4% higher COL

ORD-DCA: 13% higher COL
ORD-PHL: 6% higher COL
ORD-ORF: even cost of living

EXACTLY! We get bent over backwards in this job and we gladly make excuses to justify it. It's sickening.

If you get bent over backwards and make excuses for it, perhaps you should find a new job. No sense feeling like you're getting f**ked all the time. That's silly.

Trust me I'm trying. If I could go back in time I'd kick my own ass for every thinking becoming a pilot was a good idea.
