Contract this, Contract That!!! Work rules this, work rules that!!! I work for PDT and we have a good contract and decent pay!! But we all work for crappy regional airlines!!!!! My airline is better then your airline. No mines better!! I fell into that frame of thinking also... But it all sucks!! One year this regionals the best... the next year they suck!!! They all suck!!! The industry Sucks!!! Passangers Suck!!! Suck, Suck, Suck!!!!
Just go somewhere with a fast upgrade... Go to some other sucky mid level airline and one day hope to make 150k a year..
Enjoy this sucky profession we have all chosen!!!

Okay... too much Capt Morgen and Coke!!! Good night!!! And guess what? We all suck!!

As for your casual "things will get better in the next contract"....and "you only have to be miserable for the first couple years". Keep advertising that! We all know that working under the Red Tail they just love to give everybody what they want and they hate to see employees unhappy. 9E guys (that have been there over 5 years), Mesaba guys, and NW guys would all TOTALLY support that statement.

I'm certainly not saying that things will be easy with this next contract. It might happen quickly, or it might take 3 years, but things will get better. In all honesty, negotiations have been going very well so far. We have TA'd more sections in 8 months than ASA has in 3 years. In the end, things will get a lot better and you get the good job security in the mean time. Job security at AWAC is iffy at this point IMHO. What good is a decent relationship with management if you don't have any job security?

Yeah I know that AWAC signed a new contract for 10 years but let me ask this question to those who know. It is a contract with the old Usairways right. When the merger goes thru what type of relationship does AWAC have with america West who will be running the show.

Also if the new Usairways asks AWAC to GROW just like united did will they turn it down and jepordize their codeshare again.

Last time I checked just about ever major airline is bankrupt or on the verge of being bankrupt so working for northwest isn;t any different then usairways.

No, It's a contract with the old and the new USairways. AWAC is the 2nd largest share holder in the new USairways and we have a seat on the board. I would not go to 9E if you care about QOL. Having worked for the other redtail regional I wouldn't go anywhere near a redtail during contract talks, unless you have a big tube of KY.

.

Lets see the owners of AWAC were ignorant in not spilling out MORE of their own money to buy new airplanes with 15-20 year leases for a bankrupt airline with no plan of action that only wanted to sign a contract with them for 5 years.

I don't think AWAC is against growing, but they are against putting their profits at risks. When your a privately held company, it's your money to lose.

This may help your decision.......

Apparently Norfolk, VA is going to be staffed at around 200 pilots. This is out of 750-800 some pilots. Unless you live in Norfolk, wouldn't mind moving to Norfolk, or live in a city that has a nice little bundle of flights to Norfolk, I'd go to Pinnacle.

Doesn't look like there would be much chance of escaping ORF anytime soon unless you wanted to sit bottom lineholder or reserve in PHL or DCA.

I think so too. It's a nice place as long as you don't mind all the military guys, and lack of women.

I have recently received job offers from both AWAC and Pinnacle. I could use ANY info to help me make my decision! Thanks!
just f'ing pick one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've been at AWAC three years. Looking at upgrade in the current realignment. I've been happy with AWAC overall. Can't say anything about the other airline. I might take the first one who gives you a class date unless you care about where you want to live then go with that one.

questions answered

Many of AWAC pilots are leaving b/c they don't want to uproot their families to the east coast.

Pinnacle... DC-9s?....

MEM, DET, MSP are all "possible" as junior bases, they said that you'll probably be able to choose.

Boils down to Quality of Life

Somebody said that all the Regional's are not the place to be. This is true. All Regional Airlines pay their pilots, FA's and staff way under what they should. I see alot of people doing the Regional Hop because they think the Grass is Greener on the other side. The question is....... Is it really???? First year F.O. Pay stinks wherever you go. Piedmont pays like 24 an hr and that's one of the highest I know of.
Commuting stinks. I can't stand it even though I have an easy commute to DTW from DCA. I've thought of Leaving 9E just so I don't have to commute, but who wants to go through that first year F.O. pay thing again? Reserve? If you want to upgrade fairly reasonable and money is more important than Commuting, then so be it. That's why I choose 9E. If you want to stay an F.O. but live in Domicile, then so be it. Then I would hop over to Air Whisky. It's all about which one you want. Quality of Life is important and it's hard to find a Good Quality of life at a Regional unless you've been there awile and live in Domicile. I personally can't stand Memphis or Detroit. Minneapolis is just too damn cold, so I'll just stay here on the East Coast and commute and hope to upgrade in the Spring or Summer at 9E. I need the cash!! and Turbine PIC time so I can get the hell away from Regional's all together!
As far as growth goes at 9E.... Well here's what I've heard come down the ladder. Some guy named Dave Shockey or Chockey or something like that with N.W.A has been making regular trips to Brazil. N.W.A. is signing an agreement with Embraer for either the 170's or 190's. Rumor has it N.W.A pilots will have to settle to either keep their Pention and give up the Scope Clause for their Regionals to carry only 50 seaters. "yes Mesaba already has 69's" They were grandfathered in!. Or they can lose their pention and fly the Emb. 170's. The N.W.A. Union has already turned down the offer to fly the EMB. 170's because N.W.A. doesn't want to pay their pilots. Now who's going to fly them?? Don't know for sure?? But I can say that Pinnacle does have a new 121 certificate that's either approved already or really close to it. I've heard that it has been approved for 6 EMB 170's already and 9E can't do anything with it until the New Contract is Negotiated. That's why there's a big hurry to get this new contract finished up by the end of Jan or Feb. from what I'm hearing. This is all Hear say but it comes from reliable sources at 9E. It does all make sense. So for the mean time I'm staying put and 9E looks like it may grow some more? Who know for sure?
If you're new to the regional world and can get a job in the same city you live in then I would just go with it. I would love to be able to roll into work in less than an hour vs. 3 to 4 hrs on a good day, not to mention paying extra money for the nasty Days Inn every month. Goodluck... Choose what works for you. The Grass isn't greener on either side of the fence.
