Free walkers and adult diapers to all those who retire before 65!

Call (555) GEE-ZERS now!

Retire when you want but......Qualify? 90% of us schmucks qualify. You are easily replaceable.

We all are. Apparently, some of the fossils haven't acquired that bit of wisdom, despite allegedly having acquired all wisdom there is and ever was.

great tip, I called, but I don't qualify because I still have first class medical with no limitations

Seems the only ones "excited" are the youngsters who think they have a divine right to the left seat.

Guess what, you can have my seat when I'M ready to retire. Heck, you're making quite a large assumption you can even qualify.

Name any other INDUSTRY that disregards HARD work and TIME OF SERVICE for career advancement. Time for you to dismantle your sense of self worth and justification of your "paid dues". You are only another example of LUCK. This industry and it's successes are about nothing other TIMING and luck. You did nothing special or anything that more qualifies you than those beneath you who have demonstrated their competence and stamina for the position. In fact I can almost assure you many in this generation have far exceeded your dedication and persistance to the reward of career aspirations. Your canned cliches of "paying dues" or "earning your place" are inadmissible in an industry that disregards work ethic and character. Loose the self inflated attitude and realize there are people in this industry who will NEVER see their ambitions rewarded and NOT because of incompetence but a discriminatory biased seniority system managed by a group of self interested hoarders.

Every pilot who is enjoying an extra 5 years in the cockpit to age 65 also enjoyed the seniority advancement provided by mandatory age 60 retirements above them.

But somehow, young pilots wanting the same benefit of retirements old pilots enjoyed during the course of their career is selfish...

+1

It's time for Generation Depends to move on.

But isn't that what everyone wants, or should we have an advancement procedure based upon who management likes best because they work for free on their days off? Even for someone like me who hasn't had a lot of luck with unions, the seniority list is the only thing that works fairly.

Were you not aware that the industry is seniority and NOT merit-based when you signed on? If not, you look pretty foolish right now.

There were PRACTICAL expectations and time weighted advancement opportunities every pilot had expected, that were marketed and sold to us by pilots, flight training departments even industry "experts" who foretold a level of reasonable career expectations. EVERYTHING that has happened in this industry the previous 10 years has proven this system is NOT practical nor rewarding except to the top 10% who have sold this career's integrity like an ammo clip at a swap meet. Being an out of shape fiscally irresponsible moron by having 5 wives 3 houses and 2 BMW's and pissing away your career funds on luxury items and drowning your retirement is NOT my ####ing problem to suffer. YOU should suffer the consequences instead you lobbied for another 5 years to redeem your financial stupidity. Your telling us to grow up? I live within my means clearly something your generation has grown hypocritical to.

P.S. this is not directed at YOU personally but your entire generation.

Don't generalize or ASSUME. I know plenty of captains who are still on their first wife and don't have houses all over the world, 3 boats, sports cars, etc. You guys (not directed at you, necessarily) keep screaming about what you were promised, blah blah blah. I hope by now you realize NOTHING in life is guaranteed and you have to be prepared for that eventuality. Oh, btw, there are many captains who retire early OR lose their medical, thus making room for you young pups. I think many of you want the upgrade to pay for your $100,000 student loans YOU were stupid enough to take to get a job in this industry. I could say THAT was poor planning on YOUR part. We could go round in circles like a dog chasing its tail, but it does no good.
Put your big boy pants on, enjoy the career (or not and leave), prepare for EVERY eventuality and have a good time enjoying this adventure called LIFE. Otherwise, you will be a miserable old SOB the next generation of pilots will bitch and moan about and make fun of here on FI......

Nothing like two 70 yr old guys in the cockpit in the middle of the night over the ocean and something goes wrong

I would feel a LOT better about that if I'm a passenger than having two PFT generation "Y"ers up there

Only because when both of them croak up there, you can jump in and take over.

I'll realize it as soon as you realize that your seat is not guaranteed until death either. I promise, you have my word.

Expect nothing

I'll realize it as soon as you realize that your seat is not guaranteed until death either. I promise, you have my word.
After 11 jobs since leaving the Navy, I have adopted another slogan, "Expect nothing and you will never be disappointed” I know it sounds like having no drive, ambition or goals, but that is not the case. There is so much in this business you have absolutely no control over, these effect your job. To fret unnecessarily over those things causes ulcers, it is not worth it. Getting depressed over stupid things that you have no control over is not worth it. By expecting nothing, it will always be better than you expected. Life is then a ball.

Yip are you ready to hop back into a 121 cockpit again? I hope you are.
Sure am, put me back in the seat, but better raise the age to 75 to make it worth my while.
