I'm a Navy guy and we are facing many of the same issues with Individual Augmentations.....but our CNO isn't whining about it on CNN like a little baby.

So......your point is.........?
I guess we should get a petition together and get him ??what - fired? Last time I checked, most "AF or Navy guys" don't have much say over who's in charge or what they whine to CNN about.

I'm willing to bet your CNO would grab some cheese and start whining too if this ends up fixing the problem for the AF.

Adler-

Congrats on your first series sweeps of the Bombers in 17 years... Looks like you guys are shedding that AAA style of play calibre at Fenway.... Then again... Mo had something to do with it.... but four homers in a row...wow.... who was that pitcher?

Whether or not the Dept of the Navy is having problems is irrelevant. If the CoS or the CNO see that they are losing combat capability, it is their duty and responsibility to address it. Now if Congress tells them to pound sand and bark at the moon, they now have a challenge of how to work around the limitations they're given.
He's addressing the issue. He's actually doing what he should in his position. Now, if you want him to march lock step with every policy and keep his yapper shut, then assign him to the Politburo or Kremlin.
Maybe CNO is taking notes.

Whining?? I call it "balls of a giant cougar".

Maybe "others" need to grow a pair if they are truly concerned about their mission and people.

Also, the CoS is a pilot. He doesn't need permission to speak. :D

Bush 1 and Clinton stripped the military all through the 80's and 90's and that was fine. We built a great golf course at Andrews, and some fine generals quarters at Bolling AFB. Now we are at war and these cuts are coming home to roost in all of the services. But the generals still have nice qtrs and a golf course that is unmatched to keep them busy. The troops will just have to make do. It's called life in the military. Next time there is a RIF they should cut the generals/admirals and leave the field grade officers and nco's to run the military.

With all the flubs this CoS has legitimately made, this thread has to focus on one of the times that he actually has a valid point! By the way, the Marines always bragged about how they gave money back every year - where has that gotten them? The entire budget process if f--d up, any weapon system will get forced on the military by Congress if parts of it are built in all 50 states. The future requirements are still being modeled on threat assessments that are years old. The Army is still at post-cold war manning levels and there is no urgency to change that because so many "traditionally Army roles" such as convoy ops and prison ops are being assigned to the other services. There needs to be more transparency on the behind the scenes wrangling to flush some of the incompetency out into the open.

The Air Force senior leadership has made some real bonehead decisions in the last 15 years for sure. In this case, however, I think the General has a point.

With the size of the USAF being cut way back it probably is important to rethink the practice of using Air Force guys as light infantry and truck convoy operators.

Active duty guys, an off topic question: Are 'official photographs' back in the package the promotion boards look at?

Deliver 4 fewer Raptors...run the Marine Corps for a year.

Spot the Marine recruiter:

"You can earn money for college!"
"You can earn money for college!"
"We will make you a warrior"
"You can earn money for college!"

When I was a Plane Captain on A-model hornets in the Marines, we would always take our old junk to cope thunders, topguns, wti's, war etc. and almost always had more mission ready jets on the ramp than the navy or the air force parked next door (probably due in part because Marine hornet drivers would rather fly combat in pickled dog poop than sit in the ready room) but none the less, we have always "done more with less" right, wrong or indifferent. .cheap bullets and dull knives kill just as efficiently in the hands of the right leadership. .

"Sure, kid, you can fly fighter jets!"

Flame away, oh ye of limited budgets!
And don't laugh: the Navy guys at Randolph AFB are getting pretty spoiled with their air conditioning and base infrastructure.
