Still, the Air Force general added, "I'm less supportive of things outside our competency."

Me 1st Lieutenant in 451st Stapler Repair Squadron. Me can't learn anything else.

Was he wearing his cool ascot when he gave this speech? Ahahahahahahaha!

PS
Aaaaaaaaaahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

Naaa...we trashed the ascot testing program to pay for more Raptors. I can't believe the Navy opted not the buy more ships in order to fund for more cool brown flight boots.:D

Well played Zoomie... well played.

Though, I must say that those brown boots are pretty sweet. They improved my QOL and gave me far more job satisfication than all of the "improvements" and "upgrades" they made to the P-3 during my tenure.

Spot the Army recruiter:

"You can earn money for college!"
"We will make you a warrior!"
"How bout we meet at my apartment later, drink some beer, fool around? Bring a friend or two..."
"Sure, kid, you can fly fighter jets!"

The following air force commercial is not intended to represent the pilots/navs who actually do a mission and go in harms way, it is representative of the service in general.

Spot the air force recruiter:

"You can earn money for college"

"You get to pretend to be an actual combat service because we have named most outfits something like the 123rd tactical combat warrior base supply squadron."

"We will make you a fatter and more worthless citizen by doing 0 physical activity, doing away with the PT test and replacing it with team building events like frisbee golf, instead of actual events which involve LEADING young men towards victory "

"You get to have bosses like Gen Mosely who b!&ch instead of tightening his belt (see previous point) and defending this country as the other services are doing by just making it work!"

The air force has absolutely no leg to stand on when it comes to b!&chin about providing bodies to do jobs they are not "trained" to do. What do yo think the Army and Marines have been doing for over 230 years? Why in our time of war is the air force's budget getting smaller when the Army and Marine Corps budget is getting bigger? Because the latter two are taking care of business while the former is taking care of business as usual...

Congratulating General Mosely by saying he is just doing his job because he is defending the status quo of the air force is not a valid argument. Instead of saying the current system is NOW broken because the air force is providing bodies for work outside of their training, maybe the real issue is that the air force for the first time in a long time is required to contribute to the ongoing war effort in any way possible. Over the years most who have joined the air force (again pilots/navs aside) have forgotten it is a military branch, not a welfare state whose mission is master degrees and intramural sports.

Thanks, MILPLT: I'm very glad to hear that none of those problems or issues exist in the Navy.

(In my best sarcastic tone)

Sounds like someone is a little grumpy...musta missed his daily solo session with the volleyball scene from every squid's favorite movie, top gun.

Budget Envy is a terrible thing...and it must be stopped...in out lifetime...

The Air Force deals death on a scale too massive for the current conflict, hence the need to sit on arses in air-conditioned comfort.

However, I will FOREVER mock and condemn the pathetic, transparent, and completely annoying Air Force effort to "warriorize" everything. It's lame. STOP IT! It was the beginning of the end when Tactical Air Command went away, was merged with tanks and buffs, and became ACC. ACC my a$$. Thank God I got out still a member of Tactical Air Command. My single remaining green bag still proudly bears that patch.

Huggy, the post you were responding to was posted by milpilot, not milplt - he has the 'i' in the middle.

I, on the other hand, got to see that the Navy has its fair share of problems after flying with them for 3 years.

Even the Marines have failing leadership. Do some reasearch on their onerous ROE of getting HHQ approval to take out targets that are engaging in activities short of active fighting with friendlies. Snipers can have eyes on individuals actively planting IED's and they need to get several layers of HHQ approval. It has been documented that, in many cases, after discussing what was being observed and answering numerous questions from command - the subjects were gone before they were able to be engaged. And do some research on how poorly the sniper teams are being utilized by local commanders today. In many cases, their training and skills are completely going to waste as they are being used as glorified rifleman - and I talking about full-up snipers - not marksmen. The autonomy of the past is long gone - in some ways technology has not been a good thing. In very few instances are commanders letting them go out for days on end to reconoiter. In many cases, locally or HHQ directed ROE prevent the sniper teams from infiltrating at night or individually in small teams, completly negating their stealth capabilities and alerting enemy forces to their presence.

Want a better review of the Army than I could ever write - read http://www.armedforcesjournal.com/2007/05/2635198.

To get promoted today, you need to have support from above. Support that in most cases is garnered by being a 'yes man' and certainly not being a risk taker. Let's do a poll and see how many commanders are really risk takers nowadays. And I am not talking about everyone's current watered down view of risk taking - I am talking about risk taking that stands up to the WWII level (read Gen Kenney's autobiography or any biography of the great leaders of that era.)

This 'my service is better than your service' bickering detracts from the real issues that all of the services have. Kind of reminds me of two ants fighting about who is better as the big boot is coming down to crush them both.

Amen. Very good, although depressingly accurate, post.
And I'm sorry for the misspelling/misidentifying.

It just gets worse and worse. At least you don't have to live it every day on an AETC base. Even though we're tenants, the queep does ooze under the door a bit.

Did we not learn from our time in Jbad and Djibouti that this went something more like...
"You can earn money for college!"
"We will make you a warrior!"
"How 'bout we get that sentence commuted to a 4 year Infantry tour?!?!?"

G
orilla - Amen brotha. We have a CBT to learn how to visit the chow hall these days.
As far as ACC - at LEAST some of the other assets still put iron on target or trons on target. Gotta give them that.

Bssthound....you are right, but I bet there are more than a few ARWOs who troll around the triangle at Keesler looking for airmen to salute them. Or in one case..to carry "her" bags. :-\ Please tell me THAT rumor isn't true. Plaid skirt or not that will bug me.....

Honestly, I don't know. The nice thing about being "upstairs" is that I don't hear all the rumors and I DURN sure don't go looking for them. Wouldn't surprise me, though.

All I can say about the current military situation, regardless of which service, is: Thank God my active duty obligation for OIF is running out, and I am returning to my civilian job in June!

Speaking of being upstairs...who is the new boss now that KG moved in the great shakeup of summer 2007?

BF is up here temporarily, SS will be the new guy. Great choice, IMO.
