Agreed. He basically said nothing. What an idiot - I suppose it's just as well that the FAA revoked his certificate.

So basically in order to stay away from Camp David, he was going to overfly the White House instead. Interesting....

"In response to the dropped flares, we made a 90-degree turn to the right to a westerly direction. At this point, for the first time, we were able to visually identify our location as being in a Flight Restricted Zone (FRZ)."

So it took them a Blackhawk helicopter, two F-16's dropping flares and a 90 degree right turn to realize that something was wrong and for the first time to figure out where they were?? So much for the whole pilotage thing.

I once flew with a guy who called the EAA "Experts of Amateur Aviation."

Hey, he said it...not me.

Hey is that the "runaway bride" chick in your avatar??

Wow, she's hotter than I first thought.....

"Both men are active in their communities and belong to the Experimental Aircraft Association, Chapter #540 as well as the Vintage Aero Club."

Think that is a bad idea....

Looks like they were members of the "Vintage Aerospace Club" as well.

It certainly leaves more questions than it answers: Did he call FSS for a preflight briefing? Why wasn't he using VFR flight following? Did he have a hand-held GPS? Why didn't he use VOR to VOR navigation around the ADIZ?

Obviously coached by his lawyer not to say anything of significance.

Yeah, none of the above is required though.

That's a classic situation in aviation - and many other fields. While doing something (or not doing something) may be technically legal, it may not be very smart.

they are only that far apart on my road maps I use for planning
