I've heard all about your line bidding process.

"heard" all about it, eh? Have you read the CBA language, or sat by an XJT crew member during the ILIW/SLIW and seen it live yourself?

Even some of the most junior people, who under ANY line bidding would be flying all the weekends, can eek out a weekend here and there with PBS.

And so can an XJT pilot under the line bid ILIW/SLIW. Also, have you read the language pertaining to bad day/worse day trades?

There is just SO much variety and so many people with so many different ideas of what they want to fly, that pretty much everyone seems to get about what they want, or are at least happy with what they get.

See above. There's enough open time that an XJT pilot can do the EXACT same thing.

Sorry man, but this "heard all about it" sh1t has got to stop and SOME of you guys REALLY need to start doing your research.

I "heard about it" from YOU all. So am I getting miss information? Are YOU not telling me how it works? Hmmm...
Have you read our PBS section? Tell me the points you don't like about it.
I'm not going to keep this up because there is no point. Suffice to say I will never vote to go back to line bidding. I don't need to trade all around to get the trips I want with PBS. I get it from the start.
You will never vote for PBS because you feel that your system is better. Fine. I hope to the hell out of all of this before we get a contract anyway. And at the rate its going that should be no problem.

How senior are you in your seat?

+1

Under PBS you dont need all that "ILIW/SLIW" stuff. Besides, there is no way ASA mgt will ever let something like that into the contract.

102 or so from the bottom +/- a few on the 200.

What percent is that? And what does your schedule usually look like each month (weekends, days off, credit)? It's difficult to compare this stuff when everyone says they "get what they want". What does a guy in your seat/seniority want?

You mean SKW inc management, right? They already "let something like this into the contract" when they purchased XJT. There are more of us bidding this way than your way. Why not, "they'll never let something like pbs stay when we already have so many bidding the xjt way"?

Approx numbers. We have about 450 CAs on the 200 I'm around 350. So in about the bottom 26% or so. (If I did my math right, and I suck at math!)
I don't get a schedule that is consistant all the time, because there is a lot of the time I want different things every month. I will say that the month I did no preference at all on what days I flew, only legs per day and airports to fly through, I got exactly what I wanted. 4 4-days for the month. 85 hrs. Over the weekend. No more than 5 legs on any day. No more than 3 legs the last day. Start early. Fly through MEM and stay out of ATL as much as possible. 16 days off.
Every other month I have tried to either get certain days off or maximize my vacation or both. I have NEVER not gotten what I've wanted out of it and it's never been the same thing twice.
If I wanted all my weekends off, I couldn't do that, but I couldn't do that with line bidding either given my seniority. I'd probably be on reserve with line bidding given my seniority.
I look at what I can get for my schedules as a pretty junior guy and can only imagine how good it could be if I was at least even in the middle of that pack!

Now with all the good I do have a trip next month that sucks and because there is very little open time, or the trips that are there are worth less and I don't want to take the pay hit, I am going to be stuck with this trip. But if that is one of the few times I have to pay a little to have this PBS system then thats fine with me.

Also to say they get what they want. Look outside just getting weekends off or working weekends. There are so many different people who want so many different things.
Maybe you want a week off over a date. You can specify that. i.e. I wanted the weekend of the 18th off next month. When I got my schedule I have the 16-22nd off.
You can specify over 500 things to tailor a trip and a month to your liking.

Yep, read it. Along with the rest of the ASA CBA. Get rid of that unstacking crap for a start. Or at least slim it down a bit. Have you read the XJT CBA? Or is it all stuff you "heard"? Funny, because I read on here, and elsewhere PLENTY of ASA pilots b1tching about the PBS system. How may XJT pilots bitch about the the XJT line bid system?

And as others say, that would be fine with me as well. The ASA side can keep the PBS, the crappy sick time accrual, the crappy 401K, the crappy scheduling/hours of service/reserve section as well.

Well, Skywest inc mgt does not attend the negotiating sessions, however BH does meet with the CNC upon occassion so draw your own conclusions.

As far as your reference of "let something like this into the contract", I am referring to our joint contract that we are currently negotiating. ASA/Skywest inc had no control of what was in your current contract at the time of purchase. So really ASA/Skywest inc didnt let anything into the contract. Yet.

PBS may be done away with in the next contract. As hard as they pushed for this though, I dont think they will let it go without a fight. I was stating that I will not vote to go back to line bidding. We've been through that with this (ASA) mgt team and they have proven themselves incapable of building productive lines with long stretches of days off. Not to mention that the bottom 1/3 of all pilots were on reserve with line bidding, no trip splits, everyday being low coverage, etc... If you think for one minute that ASA mgt cannot get around your ILIW/SLIW, you are mistaken. They have repeatedly circumvented portions of our contract for years. Not just this contract but the one before it as well. Whats our option? Grieve it! Maybe 3 years later it will get fixed. No thanks. With PBS I dont need ILIW/SLIW because I bid for the EXACT days off I need/want.

Since you enjoy using the word "crappy" so much how about this. Your crappy airline that wasn't making money and was about to go under was bought by a "crappy" airline that was making money. I guess ASA must have been doing something right since they only paid ohh lets say about $33 mil approx. for it. Oh yeah your response....it was Skywest that bought XJT.

Unfortunately none of us are making money. Listen to the SKYW earnings call.

Listen to Holt tap dance tomorrow.

Well....Uhhhhh......unforseen challenges..........Uhhhhhhh........weather was bad.........Gear up.............Uuhhhhhhhh........PBS costs not realized......Uhhhhh....United is pissed....................but SOC is proceeding!!!!!!

Oh no! I'm really worried now guys.... ;-)

It wasn't about to go under. ASA isn't 'our' lifeboat. You nor us are special in any way whatsoever. We are not valued team members. We are only as weak as we make ourselves at the negotiating table. Mgmt won't sign any negative profit contract so stop thinking that xjt slit its own throat. We are merging and need to play nice, even if it is a handful of keyboard commandos on the Internet.

I think you mean you can tailor a bid to your liking. You can ask for whatever you want, but there is no guarantee you will get it.
I miss the consistency of line bidding schedules. I used to get four on/three off, or three on/four off. Now, despite pattern bidding as instructed by the PBS trainer, I have very little consistency in my schedule.

You should be worried
Serious question: will we still be here when things become quite worrisome? Age 65 is looming. ASA might be negotiating a contract that most of us will not work under.

Hmmm. The SEC docs along with your former management and the lack of long term flying after the CAL agreement say a different story. Your UAL was short term and only extend once purchased.

Man, Thank GOD Skywest was there to save us! I was really stressing losing my job and having my contract thrown out in bk court. Please, oh please let us know how we may repay your magnanimous indulgence to buy our fledgling little carrier and merge it was the operational pinnacle of regionals.

Seriously dude, put down the kool aid and make some money, commando sweaters and free turkeys are only so cool before realizing they don't pay mortgages or pad 401ks.....
