Just wondering how many swimmers are they currently in the pool as of today. Please state your interview month and are you still swimming?
I interviewed in September and still swimming.

Talked with a buddy of mine and he said that AW is going to be pulling out of ORD around March which means more flights. Right now there are close to 2100 pilots with more to come.

I interviewed Sept.23. I was told last week I am now 51 in the pool. This means probably late March or early April. I heard a guy who interviewd in early Sept. got a J41 class in early Feb. This seems right since I interviewed at the end of Sept. and they hired around 50 in Sept. I don't know the merit behind that. I also got the class projections from a friend who is switching from capt. on the J41 to the FRJ. There is about 60 to 70 slots open for new hires between now and the end of March. So August guys I hope you get a call soon.

I hear the FEDS are going to give the states $3,000 per person on unemployment to further eductaion. Sounds like a good time to get a free type rating or something. After all better us use tax payer money then some crack head.

Interviewed in early september, still swimming as of right now.
It seems like that the industry-wide trend in '02-'03. There may be jobs out there, but you have to be patient and learn how to swim to get them. Seems like most of the other regionals that are hiring are filling pools in which you wait a while before going to class. It does take patience, but its certainly not the worst place in the industry to be right now.

I spoke with D.H. at ACA earlier today and he said that according to my interview date (mid Sept.) I should'nt expect a class date until July or August. This doesnt seem to agree with the overall optimism of this thread. I certainly hope that he was being conservative in his estimation!

I just got an email response from Mr. Hess today. He said I might expect a class date "by mid Spring". I interviewed in late September, and my beard has filled-out nicely.

Variances

Okay, it seems safe to say that the pool has those late August to early September interviewees still kicking and paddling. Two or three of the Sept. interviewees have conveyed that they have been told to expect March or April and one or two Sept./Oct. interviewees mention that we were told to expect a late summer class. What do you all attribute the variance to? Is it in an attempt to provide a conservative and/or worst case scenario class date projection for those mentioned in the latter? If anyone is in the know, I'm all ears.

Fact- The only thing I know for sure is I am #51 in the pool with a Sept. 23 interview date.

Speculation- I told my friend my # and he got his packet of PROJECTED class dates out and saw the availability of planes and class slots which would project a mid-spring class date. I feel that the logistics of getting new hires trained at the right time and the UAL situation have made the job of projecting class dates a hard one.

The bright side to this is that at least we know that ACA is ran well and they won't waste a cent on trainning a new hire only to sit and do nothing. I remember last summer when comair had a slow down in the trainning department and the pool was full. New hires were on reserve for months and years only to fly 30 hours a month. They must have wasted tons of money. To me flying for a company that is ran well is much more important then getting trained right away while share holders money is wasted. Also keep in mind that from what I have heard ASA cancelled all new hire classes this year and some in the pool will have to rehire. I don't think this will happen to us.

Take the time to further yourself by taken some college classes or to finish a degree if you can.

PS If anyone recieves a date keep everyone else informed on hire date so we can maybe see where we stand.

Interviewed in mid-August and still swimming. Got a call back from the HR Dept. today and they said that there are 5 people ahead of me. He said that number 6 in the pool probably would get me into the next class. When will that be? I am not sure (it was a voice mail and he didn't note a class date).

AvJunke----Timing, timing, timing. Some friends interviewed just two months before me and were told to report for training the very next week! They are on the line. I interviewed two months later and am in the pool. I am Not complaining. Just illustrating what a difference a month or two makes in the end.

Just adding my info- I was interviewed in Mid Oct and told to expect Fall. I called DH back today to ask if there was any chance the pool would be dissolved (like ASA). He said that's bad business and extremely unlikely at ACA.

Keep up the good attitudes, folks, I can see that our hiring department didnt go wrong. We are all sitting tight here, watching the situation, but we are optimistic and hopefully we will see you guys and gals up here soon. If I do get any good information for you swimmers, I will let you know.

Hey pool guys,

I received this bit of info yesterday. ACA has revised its hiring next year from 350 to 180. With approx 120 of you in the pool, that makes for only about 60 new hires that will be interviewed this year. This came from Dean and Shawn. Also, keep in mind that these #s are very fluid right now, with all that is going on at UAL. If anything, I would find this a bit pessimistic and that the actual 2003 #s for hiring might go up.

so the good news: 1.all of you should hear something this year. 2. This could all change to a more positive picture.
bad news: you may be swimming longer than you thought. 2. Less seniority built once you get here. 3. anyone trying to get on here in 2003 who isnt already in the pool ie trying to get an interview will find it very competitive.

There are a few new hires in my January 28th DoJet Class. They actually start on Jan 14th for indoc. Several J41 classes have also be added to the schedule in Feb and I believe March (according to one of the instructors who is supposed to teach them). These should be exclusively new hires. There are usually about 8-10 FO's per class. The rest of the new hire slots I posted back a few weeks ago still seems accurate and on course. That does not mean things will not change tomorrow. The whole United thing is putting a lot of pressure on the company to cut costs. There is no doubt that Mesa ( through Freedom) and Chautaqua are putting in bids for UAL flying.
Good luck. keep swimming. I find the side stroke uses some of the least energy. Some of you poolies might want to start an synchronized swim team. ;-)

I interviewed early September and still swimming. I was told I was number 40 in the pool and to expect July as a "worst case scenario class date". On the positive side of things though I've developed a killer back stroke!

Good question re: type of aircraft. H.R. Dept. left a message asking that I call them back and accept or decline. Obviously, I called back and accepted Problem is that I have not broken into the 1990s and have yet to get a cell phone, so it's difficult for folks to get ahold of me. Playing phone tag at the moment. I'd gladly take any (or all) three aircraft that they fly.

Congrats on the job. Welcome to the team. From the track record in the past classes starting on a Friday are usually j41. This is only a guess but I think it is a good bet.

Yes, it's pretty typical for J-41 classes to start on Fridays (mine did) and CRJ classes on Mondays.
