For the past year and half I've been at my airport. I've noticed this Cessna 150F that basically been sitting there rotting away. I did some reasearch through its tail number and I found out that the company that owned it has gone out of business. However, through FAA records, the aircraft is still under their name. I wonder what this means exactly. If the company doesn't exist anymore, then does that mean the aircraft is up for grabs?

It's possible that it's tied up in litigation or the possession of a bank.

Is your county recorder online? If so, it might be worth doing a search and finding out who was involved with that company and making a call.

Also, I don't know where you live (climate) but if its sat there rotting away atleast for the past year and a half, you probably want nothing to do with it!

The airplane itself probably has little value as it is, and you'll probably have to turn around and put a lot of money back into the plane to get it back to good working condition!

There's a traumahawk that has been sitting in the same spot, slowly sinking (seriously) into the ground. I've been flying into DET for over 2 years now and it hasn't moved. I really wonder how long it's been sitting there.

I used to fly out of an airport here in Florida that had a few of those and I thought the same thing. So one day I took an A & P mechanic to look at these to see if they could fly and if they could not how much does it cost to make them fly again. It cost more to fix them back up than they were worth so that I would assume is what you will get 90 % of the time.

I would say that you should just go out there, take it, and if no one misses it --- It's Yours!

it's sad to see this happen. there's a 172 at a flying club where i have been a few times in galion, OH that is slowing getting destroyed by weather. the guy who owned it died, and the flying club kept trying to buy it from his family, and they wouldn't sell it. so there it sits, year after year. :(

LOL, and that's just ON airport property...just imagine what the rest of the city is like!

*thread hijack* ...and just imagine how much worse the city will get when GM finally closes their doors.

Well, I tried tracking down the business, nothing. You'd think they at least try to sell the aircraft instead of just abandonding it. I know it would probably be a money pit, but I can still dream! :)

Well if you do take it, you'd better make it the best flight ever, cause it'll be your last.

Ending in engine failure, or grand theft!

besides its a 150... who wants it?

lol me, I like the Cessna 150/152 class.

There's a black mooney that's been rotting for longer than any of the FBO employees can remember on the ramp at 3MY. It hasn't moved in the last 5 years, at least. I'll have to write down the tail number next time I see it. It's very beyond unairworthy - it's barely groundworthy. We think the airport owner might know who it belong to, but nobody gives enough of a fark to ask about it.

There is one here like that.
Repairs $5K
Paint & interior/glass about $8K
Radios $5K
Engine and prop work $10K
consumables (tires, seals, fluids, filters, etc etc) $1K
annual $1K

add it up, then go find a flyable airplane at TAP for less!

thank god there are people who see the dream and keep bringing life back to these planes or we would run out of them!

The only real value there is... if they GIVE you the plane and you sell it on Ebay to someone less discerning!

I am really considering buying this C-150F and bringing it back to life. I think the reason is that my family has always had customized cars, and trucks. My dad has a Shelby Cobra he built from the ground up, completely cutomized. My brother has a customized 1989 Mustang GT 5.0. So, I kind of want a customized C150F. Its a stupid reason I know.

the best reason is YOUR reason. i say go for it, man. do you have any kids of your own or in the neighborhood that you can make this a project with? man, i would have LOVED to tackle a project like this when i was knee high to a grasshopper.

Thats just cause you need to fly more planes, once you get out of the trainers you will find some really cool aircraft. Citabria, Pitts, Diamond Star, RV's, etc.

I've flown Pitts, T-6, jets, blah blah blah....and the C-150 ranks in my top ten.

The worst I've flown has been a Katana DA-20. What a piece of crap.

Ok, now the 150 is still not up there with me, but I will give you that the Katana is a absolute piece, but thankfully nothing like a DA40 Diamond Star, they are different, the star is awesome. I have like 200 hours in one, I love it. Not the fastest or most HP but just cool.
