I here your MEC is planning to activate your Strategic Prep and Strike Committee in response to your company's complete disregard for your new contract(a contract you wouldn't even have minus this acquisition).

I know y'all have fought long and hard for your new contract. Without this acquisition, you would still be fighting.

This type of aggression is not the path to a career at SWA. GK and our mgmt are very protective of our culture and will protect it however necessary.

Your MEC is leading you down a path that will jeapodize your futures with SWA. Then again, with an MEC VC who has openly expressed his hatred for SWA, and an MEC Chair with such lofty goals within ALPA Ntl, maybe this is the idea.

Strike, a word y'all have used on numerous occassions, has never been spoken in our path to our industry-leading contract. Consider this fact as you characterize this acquisition as a merger of equals.

Geez, even if it was true, you should be supporting them, not worrying about what "Gary" thinks. BTW, I do remember SWAPA talking strike back in the 90's I believe it was. Back than the SWAPA contract was further behind the industry standard than AirTran is now. Back than SWA was trying to establish itself with the help of pilots working more and paid way less than their peers (I believe a SWA Captain made about what a UAL 737 F/O made) as well as foregoing the type of retirement that most pilots in the industry enjoyed. It wasn't that long ago if you couldn't get an airline job, an option was to buy a 737 type and get on with SWA. You guys really shouldn't be so cocky. We all live in glass houses.

Good post. That is spot on.

SWAPA never talked about striking or even a strike vote on our 90s contract as you put it. Maybe some pilot giving you jump seat might have talked about it.

Thank you for the advice, rest assured, we will take your wise consul from this reputable anonymous message board to the powers that be. Thank goodness for altruistic outsiders with only our best interests in mind like you watching over us.

Lonestar,
Whereas you may be correct that this could have repercussions, we at AAI still must fight to force management to honor the agreement they just signed. You are fortunate that you don't have to fight these battles. If you don't stand up to the bully you will always be bullied.
If our MEC does anything that looks suspicious or doesn't pass the stink test in regards to this deal they will be recalled.
