When I was a brand new copilot for a commuter flying 1900's my captain discovered that the transponder would not accept 8 or 9s. We had just landed at our mx base and he told me to get a mechanic because he was going to write it up. About halfway across the ramp it hit me. I ran back to the airplane yelling "Don’t write it up!". But it was too late. Mx had a good laugh at our expense that day.
