CSY--hey, I'd have posted this if it had been anyone from any airline. It just so happens it's AA. And, it just so happens that my friend has the actual logbook write up.

We're both on the street with little chance of recall this decade. Sounds like YOU 'chose' the wrong airline to go to. ;)

AND...if the reps from STL hadn't convinced the APA BOD that taking concessions was better than Ch. 11, Sammy, Lenny and their lapdogs in the PDP would have driven the company to bankruptcy in March '02. I WAS an eyewitness to that one.

Had that happened, you and I would might be retired before we got offered a recall.TC

Yeah, not doubt I choose the wrong airline, BUT I ain't bitching, or blaming it on TWA or any other company..Nor am I taking a "friends" word for some mx write-up that ridicules a group of pilots.

Heck, we could all build a case against NWA for landing at the wrong airport, or DAL for shutting down both engines, or TWA for aborting a T/O after V1 AND Vr, FedEx for flipping MD-11s, UPS for scraping engines in JFK, etc, etc.

If indeed some poor slob @ AA or whoever wrote up a Transponder for not having enough numbers, feel pity for the individual's ignorance.
Perhaps he or she got there because of other factors than qualifications as mandated by the Federal Government?
Every airline have some.

Don't think the 14,000 AA pilots are known for not having the faintest idea on how to operate a transponder, so the topic deserves a thread on the nearest BB..?

CSY,

This is a bs story. For those who don't know, you can look up the mx writeups for any ac in the fleet in sabre with this entry.

"Couldn't find it on the KVA entry in DECs." From previous post from AAFlyer.

...Or landing at the wrong airport, or flying 20 miles off course in the Carib. thinking he wasn't on radar and giving position reports reflecting where he SHOULD have been or... Any number of other stuff that's been done by TWA pilots.

I had to think for a second when I read the writeup on the 8's and 9's before I got it. It was a pimp--a non-life-threatening "DOH!" that any of us can fall into on a bad day.

Like we've covered a million times, AA pilots have done some dumb$h!t things in the past decade or so to bring attention to themselves. USAir and Delta did it in the '80's and '90's. TWA did it in the '60's.

That's what happens when you have a bunch of young, senior guys who think they invented flying. JB may be next. Who knows.

We just can't let this stuff ruin our sense of humor. Sorry if I hit you on the wrong day, it happens to me, too.TC

Geez CSY... lighten up man. I thought the write up was actually pretty funny, no matter if it happened at AA or whoever.

Amazing how you always manage to turn stuff into an AA-TWA bashing session.

Make love not war, Holmes!

I actually saw this exact transponder write up in PIT one day. We were coming out to take the plane over from another crew, and as i got on the plane I saw maintenance on the plane, so I asked the captain of the previous crew what was going on.....he said "transponder problems, they are gonna replace it" so that crew left and I started talking to the maintenance guys about what was wrong......"ahh the transponder numbers wont go past 7" I said welllll 4 7's is the hightest number you can put in a transponder....they did'nt belive me cuz the previous captain was VERY senior and I look like im about 16, so I brought my captain up and said "whats the hightest number you can put in the transponder" 4 7's he says.....the maintenance guys started laughing their a$$es off, called in to maint ops, and they all had a good laugh at this one......corrective action in the logbook was "tranponder has no 8 or 9.

Well, could some active AA pilot give me their EN and password so I can go on SABRE and verify this writeup for myself?

I promise not to trade all your Kona layovers for redeye turns to SAC...:D TC

I did find out this was a hoax. I appologize for disparaging the reputations of the AA pilot group (this time... ;) :D).

I need to get new friends.

Guess if I want any dirt on AA pilots I'll have to go back to wiretapping aa73 and AAflyer's phones. Hummm... I wonder if I can still rent that white van and camera equipment... TC

Too late 717, my one and only wiretap has been taken over by AA management. (or maybe the APA... they are one and the same, ya know.)They're trying to keep track of my numerous "Rule 32" violations.

I'll still be your friend, though...

My file looks like the Manhattan phone book! The good news is they have to call me back to fire me... That'll be awhile. ;) TC

Huh me...?

Read my lips: I have no beef with them TWA gusy, I have never attacked them or turned "stuff" into an AA-TWA bashing session..If anything I have responded to AA bashing and shot back a few of their BS comments, and if ya look back on this board ya will find enough of those.

Jeez, before ya tell the world what I manage to do, do yer homework or shut up, whether ya are AA or TWA.

Aye Mr. 717 Driver, thanks for clearing the air.
Surely ya should have known that a native AA dude would never have written up a transponder with no 8 or 9 on it....?...:D

Hey CSY refresh my memory if ya woluld. When did DAL shut down the wrong engine?

Jim,

I think CSY is speaking about the 757(?) that took off from LAX back in the early to mid 90s and accidentaly shut them both down on climb out.

The Delta incident was a 767-200. That plane was originally certified with the EEC buttons right in front of the fuel control switches. They were over the beach departing LAX, got a "EEC Fail" message which requires turning off both EEC's. Unfortunately, they got the fuel switches. Both of them.

That was during Delta's period when they had numerous excursions on the NATS and the no-flap take off in DFW.TC

Yup that was it.

"Delta"'s noice abatement procedure: Shut 'em both down..

And the B-727 crashing in DFW due to a no-F take-off, 1988..Same as the Northwest MD-80 back in 1986 or 1987....

So, we could all point fingers and post messages, but uh, we are all  sitting in glass-houses and the one to throw the first stone, etc....

I know this is just some ridiculous message board, but you guys are never going to get this industry back on it's feet with this attitude.

blueside--Trust me, there's a whole hell of a lot of things that will keep this profession on it's a$$ ahead of this message board.

I believe the "I've got mine, you'll get yours eventually" attitude is at the top of the list.TC

Oh great, here is another C-150 driver with all the answers.

What exactly can "us" guys do to get this industry back on its feet?
