But, I like the B717! Really!

TWA Dude said:
Now whydya have to go and hurt my feelings? The only "unfortunate" thing about the 717 was that AA didn't follow through on their original plan to order 100 more! Dumping the F100 was necessary but keeping the 717 would've given AA the 100-seater that's the talk of the town these days. Harumph!

I agree! I think the B717 is a great airplane! I love the flight deck and it is very quiet. When I used to commute between St. Louis and Dayton, it was the plane I got to ride on and I loved it. The F-100 with it's langing gear issues needed to go, But. the B717 would fit perfectly into the fleet at AA.

The only thing wrong with the B717 was Boeing didn't promote it as well as they could have. Too busy trying to push the B737-700, -800, and -900s. That left the opening for Canadair and Embraer to maufacture 90 seat jets. And with the Brazillian government supporting the financing of the EMB jets...

It is sad to fly over LGB and see the DC-10/MD-11 buildings gone and the DC-9/B717 buildings empty.

Maybe the AAnnouncement was that they are already short of S80 FOs in NY......2 days after a furlough.

Who'da thunk it?

Brilliant!

I think the AAnnouncement is thAAt they're actually going to try to be nice to the passengers, for a change. I guess haughty and arrogant aren't generating the results that AA expected.

AMR

American, Midway, Reno !!

The rumor was that American was buying Midway2 back in the day.

Reno employees got the dream but the Midway employees kept on dreaming til the doors closed.
Don't believe it till you see it with your own eyes in this industry!!

Heard it's basically a done deal.

Ah yes, the famous "done deal". If I had a nickel for every "done deal" that I have been involved with in my 30+ years in this business, I'd be retired sitting on a beach somewhere not really caring what happens to this messed up industry.

For what it's worth, I hope for the Frontier guys this is just another bad rumor. I couldn't think of a worse position to be in than be part of a pilot group purchased and "merged" with AA. That would be time for me to hang it up, no matter how good the deal was.

It's better than being on the street (barely). I'd definitely think about hanging it up if a better offer came along, but how often does that happen for airline pilots?

Atrophied Minds Reign...

At American Airlines, we're something special in the air.
At American Eagle, well, we're something...

Two great airlines, one left out.

Others?

BestPilot,

If you are bought or merged with AA, it's the same as being on the street. Just ask all the TWA'ers....

And it's 3 great airlines, 1 left out, 1 destroyed...

I agree. Some of my best buddies were TWA and they were srewed in the deal. I'm just sayin to not quit...Then it becomes a rece to see if you can get another job before you get furloughed.

You're right, though. If you're not "Native AAmerican", you're a second class citizen.

I had some friends from the original Midway that went to Reno Air and wound up at AA. They aren't "out on the street" as of now. They all have 2/99 "hire dates" with American and so far that has been good enough.

However, some of them didn't go in the first place. They didn't want any part of it. The ones that did had to deal with the double lawsuits, the "surprises" in flight bags, etc. The ONLY positive statement I got from any of them was "well, I'm making more money". Sorry. For me, money isn't everything, or what's it's all about. If I can't be happy or have fun or have some sort of camradarie on the job, what's the point?

The ones that did go, with relatively few exceptions, view it simply as a necessary evil. None of them view it as "fun" and that's too bad. Sometimes being on the street forces you to do things or take chances on something that you might not ordinarily do because of the fear of the unknown or the perceived risks at trying something new. And then sometimes these "new" things turn out to be the best thing that ever happened to you. Something you never would have experienced had you not been "forced" to do so.

It's all how you look at it.

BoneHeads!

There is no one at F9 who thinks, like the commuter schmucks, that AA is the Holy Grail of aviation. Most of us know we'll be the top dog of this business inside of 5 years. Then it will be just a matter of how to choose worthy employees in an industry filled with slackers.

The big annoucement will be that American Airlines has hired Richard Simmons to give their F/A's instruction on how to talk nicely to the customer.

Next, you'll tell me that Richard Simmons image will be painted on all the Super-80s. Can they still board from the rear? Sounds perfect. Thanks for the info, Snake buddy.

Freaking hilarious Seagull dude. I laughed so hard that I just had some beer shoot out of my nostrils. I caught most of it in my glass though, so none wasted. It doesn't taste quite the same the second time around.

That Elton dude looks really funny. It would like be totally cool to see Richard Simmons AA jet pulling up BEHIND Elton in DFW. I just hope I have a camera with me.
