Strong . . . . very strong. Finally, a group with some cajones:

Pilot Group Rejects Tentative Agreement
Monday June 19, 10:12 am ET

Company's Final Offer and Ultimatum Not Enough for Pilots

HOUSTON, June 19 /PRNewswire/ -- On Friday, June 16, 2006, secret ballots for the Air Transport International amended Collective Bargaining Agreement were counted and certified at the Teamsters Local 747 headquarters. With 165 total ballots counted, 155 voted against the ratification of the new agreement. The agreement was a final offer from the company, which was accompanied by management's threat to shut down the entire ATI operation if the pilots did not ratify the contract.

The parties have been in contract negotiations since May 2004, and under the auspices of the National Mediation Board since last summer. During the course of negotiations, the airline was sold to a company that is now claiming it can no longer afford the cost structure that existed at the time of purchase.

"This local will not endorse a contract offered to our members that comes with an ultimatum," said Local 747 President and General Counsel E.E. Sowell. "The pilots' voices were loud and clear, and they are not going to allow the company to circumvent their responsibility to negotiate a fair contract with threats."

At this time, the National Mediation Board can call the parties back to the bargaining table to continue talks. The Local 747 Executive Board will be exploring the possibilities of issuing a Strike Ballot Authorization vote in the near future.

Founded in 1903, the International Brotherhood of Teamsters represents more than 1.4 million hardworking men and women throughout the United States and Canada.

Our new owner's attempt to throw that POS contract in our face has only served to further unify our pilot group as a whole. We proved that this last Friday when we voted this thing down over 90% in our favor.

Sorry for not being informed on the subject, but what were some of the "BIG" points of contention (highlights) that were rejected?

Thanks - and good luck to you guys!

Another example of unions leading good companies into the recycle bin. ummm ya unemployment is really better than a fair contract. Too bad unions have absolutely no vision or solution for the future. They sit there and whine about negotiating in "good faith" That has got to be the most annoying term ive ever heard. They complain and complain yet never offer any solution

It's time for you to study up on your union law. "Good faith" simply means that the company (or the union) actually is willing to negotiate instead of to demand. That is a legal requirement under law. As soon as they move from negotiation to demanding, then it's ok to self-help (look it up).

It's usually not appropriate to even use the words "final" or "last offer", that is often taken by the courts to be not negotiating in good faith.

You sound like an idiot, by the way.

When we want your cornrowe monkey-brained opinion we’ll rattle your cage, okay? Please try to have at least some small idea of what the fu*k you're talking about before you try to post again.

Seriously Angelo, I suggest the next time that you feel an urge to embarrass yourself and piss off others, that you summon all your might, and resist.
