A&P school suggestions

I'd like to get my A&P license. Looking for a school that offers an accelerated 14-16 month program. What is the fastest and most cost effective way to do this? Prefer California or Florida but will relocate anywhere in the US. Does anyone have any experience with Miramar College in San Diego? It may be possible to do this in 3 semesters there at $20 per credit.

With the proper endorsements, 18 months full time for one rating, 30 months for both.
Finding a shop that will hire you to train you is the key ingredient here. I did this once, and will never do it again. Hired the guy, trained him while paying him a living salary, and he left after getting his licence for a better paying position with a competitor.

There's a school at KVNY (Van Nuys, CA) that will do it in the accelerated timeframe and for very cheap, even less than the $20 per credit hour I believe. Look under Los Angeles Adult School (or Vo-Tech) schools and their website should come up.

I called NVOC tech school in Van Nuys today and they said their program takes 2 years. They sure have a good deal though. Spartan's program is faster but costs $34000. I found another school in Florida that offers a 14 month program for $26500 including all books, exam fees and $2000 worth of tools - http://www.naa.edu I did a tour today and was pretty impressed. Still looking for other options before making a decision.

I used to work with a bunch of guys at BizEx that got their A&P at some community college in Connecticut. The cost at the time was less than $2000. Would be worth looking into.

Real cheap for Fla residents and credit hours apply toward an A.S. degree.

Check out Pennsylvania College of Technology in Williamsport, Pa. Penn college has a 2 and 4 yr Aviation Tech. course and is part of Penn State University. New modern state of the art aviation tecnhology center and lst class all the way.

This looks like the best option so far: http://www.swic.edu/instruction/aviationmaint/ I just talked to the program director at Southwestern Illinois College. Apparently it is very easy to obtain the in-state residency status. All that is necessary is to live in the area for 30 days! The in-state total cost is only $8500. That includes books, tools and exam fees. Plus the program is intended to be completed in 50 weeks. Classes start every 10 weeks.

part of community college system of state of north carolina. super low cost. with a few extra courses at main campus(five miles) you can get a two year AS degree that is accepted at some school as first two years of a four year degree.
Goldsboro, nc. In school 8a-5p daily. plenty of nearby jobs in evening(not far from Raleigh)

It used to be that Parks College was a good school that offered an A&P program that took only 12 months. It's part of the St. Louis University and is probably pretty pricey. If time is of the essence then the 12 month program is probably the way to go. I went to Cheyenne Aero Tech, it was a 13 month program and they're long gone. It was about $12,500 but that was '93. It kind of depends on what you want to do with it. Good luck.

Don't overlook Eastern New Mexico University at Roswell. Four semesters and one summer session. If you're a resident there in the district, then the tuition is about six hundred bucks a semester.

They've got a great deal for those who want an associate degree and already hold a mechanic certificate, too. Four online classes only...and you can have your degree for the cost of those few classes.

You can also obtain your certification without going to a school. You'll need 30 months of practical working experience as an aircraft mechanic, at 40 hours a week of full time employment, attested to by certificated mechanics who personally know you did the work. If you have the option of attending a school, I strongly recommend you do that, instead.
