A new rumor floating around the crew lounges is that SkyWest will be announcing a new code share by years end. The top two are: Frontier and North West Airlink. Frontier would be DEN and Airlink would be in the North West, Seattle?

I also heard that from a couple of SkyWest friends. They also told me a deal is in the works with the Navy to do COD work with the Brasilias. Tailhooks are being installed in SLC right now.

The rumor has a pretty good source... not too long ago the CEO said at a conference that he expects to announce another code share by year's end.

As with anything, I'll believe it when the paint is on the airplane and my a$$ is strapped in the seat...

Frontier isn't likely, b/c Frontier won't allow a codeshare to do flying for another carrier out of the same airport.

That is the main reason why Mesa is being let go, b/c they will likely be doing UAX flights out of DEN.

I guess we'll find out by the end of the year, huh?

-Boo!

Glad you know more then us who work here since we fly Delta and United colors out of DEN, SLC, SFO,TUS, RNO, YVR, COS Just to name a few. None of us know what is on the table but there is some entertainment value to some of these rumors.

Do any of those routes overlap, you know flying for two seperate airlines over the same route.... kind of compeiting with yourself? Just curious. As for the Northwest deal I suppose anything is possible but I would imagine it would take a pretty big operation to offer the feed that NW already has in place with Horizon. AD

This is from another thread:

The NW MEC has veto rights on any new codeshare agreements and about a year ago they passed a MEC resolution to have Mesaba and Pinnacle be the exclusive providers of Airlink brand flying

If this is true, then SkyWest Airlink won't be happening. That Seattle rumor has been flying for over two years now. Maybe it will happen, maybe not. Unless NW MEC changes their mind, if it does happen, it will be Pinnacle or Mesaba.

I wouldn't count on on the NW MEC for much.....while it was good to see them kind of stand up for the Airlinkers, I see this as nothing more than something that can be negotiated away much like scope clauses. "If you guys relax this for us.......we'll do this for you" You can't tell me there isn't a unlimited amount of things on mainliners wishlist these days. AD

avrodriver,

off the top of my head, we do slc-sfo, slc-den, and i think slc-lax for both united and delta. they are a pain when one gate is 2.5 miles on the other side of sfo!

mookie:cool:

While it would be great to do more flying in Seattle I doubt that will happen. Horizon dominates the area.UAL, NWA and I don't know who else farm out alot of their northwest flying to Horizon.

It would be nice though...and a senior base to!!

While jumpseating on Skywest last week I heard from a very senoir captain (higher date in early '80s) that Skywest was going to lease Emb's from Jetblue. Apparently Jetblue is going to sale the aircraft they get from Embrear to a leasing company to raise some additional capital. In return skywest will lease the aircraft and fly them for Jetblue at a rate lower than Jetblue could do it themselves.

This Captain swears he had Neeleman,(sp) and Jerry Atkin on a flight from SLC to BTM fo what he thinks (the Captain) was an informal business meeting two weeks after Jetblue annonced their order.

I know what your all thinking, It sounds crazy to me too, but the Skywest pilot WAS CONVINCED!!!!

Homer OUT~

Yeah I know you are just forwarding what you heard... but, I don't think so. Supposedly JetBlue talked to Skywest about a codeshare, EMB's out of Long Beach... and I may be wrong... it's happened before... alot actually... but I'll save that for my pshrink... But I would think that a company as young as JetBlue would be able to operate those pretty cheaply considering the seniority of their pilots, not to mention that Skywest doesn't operate all that much east of the Mississippi...

I've heard a lot of senior captains, both at Skywest and elsewhere, spout their knowledge. Being a junior one myself, I tend to believe those stories less and less.

but what the hell do I know, I still believe in Santa Claus!

Isn't this how most rumors/stories begin.

There I was....

One time at band camp......

I heard from a senior capt.....

:D

Why is it always a "very senior captain" can't "very junior captains" start rumors...;)

No.........junior captains aren't allowed to start rumours except on the sixth Thursday of every month from 0455Z to 0500Z. It's in Part 69 of the FAR's.......don't you read them?

AF:p

What a JOKE.

I learned a long time ago that you only believe what you can see and touch. For example; I will not believe that we have a 11 year agreement with United until the contract is signed. Remember that a MOU is only good faith and we all know about United reputation for good faith.

About the "Senior Captain". Hasn't anyone realized that they are soooooo bored with their job that screwing with FO's, jumpseaters, FA.s, rampers etc. is their only enjoyement for the day? Just smile and tell them that you'll pass it on to your buddies. It will make their day.

Even if our CEO and Mr. Neeleman were together I wouldn't read too much in to that. They are both deservedly successful airline CEO's from the same state. Just like we socialize with other pilots, airline CEO's socialize with their peers.

I'd be delighted if we did some codesharing with Jet Blue. It would be a great match however I think Mr. Neeleman will stick with his stated intention of keeping the flying in-house. With that said I sincerely hope I'm wrong.

Fly safe,
DB

from another post

I spoke yesterday to a senior ASA captain who said that ASA will soon be continuing its hiring.

DAM@ THOSE SENIOR CAPTAINS.....STARTING RUMORS AGAIN

No way....there are no Icons for me to follow.

The EMB-190 purchase was in the works for a long time. At various times, various regional airlines approached Jetblue about codeshare arrangements. The decision was reached to keep the flying in-house. This according to a guy who very closely resembles David Neeleman.

A POINT TO PONDER

One very big advantage that Jetblue currently enjoys over it's competitors is the fact that their pilots are on the low end of the payscales. If they do fly the emb's for themselves, which at this point seems to be the plan, they will have pilots moving up the payscale doing work which is considered by other airlines to be regional flying (I don't want to get into a big debate on who does and does not own the flying. Just trying to point something out from management prospective.) If this ends up being the case, they loose some of that advantage. In a good economy Delta can bring in a pilot and have them fly for comair or asa for 5+ years at the low end of the regional payscale, and then give them a job at the big show, and start them over at the bottom of the payscale. I am not predicting that the emb's will end up anywhere other than Jetblue, but I would not be at all suprised if they did find a home at a regional.

The benefits of having a highly motivated, hard working pilot force far outweight any benefits gained through pinching pennies and pissing pilots off. I can save my company more than the entire salary they pay me when I'm in a good mood. This seems to be the driving force behind employee relations at JBlue. I hope it continues.
