43 is the number, announced yesterday in a vacancy bid. Also talked about today on HALALPA's newstalk Saturday. Good luck gang. Save me a spot at Makua in case we strike over FREEDUMB!!

I like your thinking Jim. I agree Hawaiian has just let the wind out of her sails and it takes some time to get back up to speed. And of course you are in contract negotiations and I know first hand what that's all about. Aloha had a better course set and never lost any speed. After the merger died Aloha was extremely focused. Aloha knew a week or two early that Hawaiian was going to pull out of the merger when Hawaiian blew off a DOT proceeding in DC. Everybody on the outside mis-read Aloha big-time. They may as well have stuck "catch me if you can" bumper stickers on all their 737's. You have to give them credit for a fantastic show this year.

Jim said:
Probably closer to 33 than 43. We have 10 retires and over 60 FEs that will go with the DC-10s in Feb.

The bid is also being grieved. We have scope clause and other contractual issues that have to play out. Plus the day after the bid came out, there was new flying announced (not much, but some) that was not included in the manning calculations. The company is also in negotiations for more destinations, some that could be quite crew intensive as they would require long layovers. The union is also getting ready to talk with management about some early-retirement options that would save money and lessen furloughs if accepted.

Furloughs have not yet been officially announced by management. The last number talked about was 31 on Jan 15th. The numbers change daily because of the above. While I think I will most likely be on the street again come Jan, I also think there is a fair chance the furloughs will either be delayed, go away or be short-lived.

Another thread talked about Aloha making a profit 3rd quarter. HAL made one too, about $6.4 million. We are in fiscally better shape than Aloha, but Aloha seems to be executing their buisness plan better. We're kind of floundering while our endless search for a new CEO goes on and on and on...Once we get a new top dog, hopefully things will start pulling together better.

Any guess when Hawaiian and Aloha are going to start hiring again?

It's been too long, I wanna go home...
