A friendly reminder to those working towards retirement, on furlough, getting off reserve, getting hired, and negotiating contracts. 1261 days until mandatory retirement becomes effective again!

OK,...I'm beginning to agree with you guys that say it can't come soon enough....(!!?!) :puke:

So about 300 more days till some SWA pilot's grumble about 65 being unfair and a push for 70 starts. Lifevests and depends will soon be stored under the left seat.

I'm counting the minutes. Realistically speaking, I'm pretty sure I'm going to get furloughed first. I'm not worried, the old guys I fly with tell me I can pay my dues like they did and recoup the loss by working until 65 myself. That's terrific! Thanks!

That's the thread winner. Thought I'd get that in before the usual, tired, debate begins.

Don't aim that loaded gun over here. Point it toward Herndon, Va.

Gup

Let's be honest Gup. Who got the ball rolling? Prater and the fat cats simply payed off their older constituents who elected them.

SWA houses the selfish jerk Paul E. alright but he didn't have the pull and was just making noise until ALPA got onboard.

Gup

Brown----ignore. Great, got that out of the way.

I fear the debate isn't over. I think it was Air Transport Weekly, but some idiot wrote in whining about being forced to retire, and how the Age 65 rule wasn't fair either.

This was in my mind when guys were decrying Age 60 as an "arbitrary number". How is 65 any different?

I sincerely hope these guys call it a day and a career at 65.

Let's not forget ICAO changed the age first. Unless ICAO raises their age again, I don't see it happening in the U.S. That being said, I think age 65 is one of the worst things to happen to our industry besides the outsourcing. Outsourcing has allowed our salaries to drop to levels we couldn't even imagine 10 years ago.

Changing it was one thing, the problem I have is the WAY it was done. If it had to be changed it should've been done gradually, like raising the mandatory retirement age 1 year every 3 years or something to that effect. That way you still get some attrition and mitigate furloughs to a degree. Going from 60 to 65 overnight was the wrong way to go about it.

Unfortunately our government doesn't understand what it means to do something logical. Throw something together, fire it down the pipe and go with whatever happens. Clean it up later if it screws over enough people and they yell loud enough-but only enough to ease some of the yelling.

How about the "Undaunted Ticker?"

:) :) :)

Love it!

The day will come, can't be stopped. What I'm going to enjoy the most: We'll be right back to where we were just before it changed to 65. Prater will write another article about "the FO who get's it", there will be handwringing and teary eyed, frail pilots who will beg and plead for more relief. There won't be an ounce of regard for them. And there won't be any jobs either! 65 is officially too old.

How about the "Greed Grapher"? That way it works for both opinions.

And some agency over in Europe is looking at seventy so.....don't be surprised

Timely post....I have the "Statement of Intent" in hand to go back active duty for another 4 years. That should just about eat that 1261 up!

Just flew with a guy who is 61. Full NAVY Pension, and has 20+ years at UAL, not ONE ounce of care about the 100's soon to be 1000's we have on Furlough!

THEY DON'T CARE! PIGS TO THE TROUGH!

OINK OINK OINK!

I'm 20+ years till 65 and I'm all for it. It'll easily be an extra $2 MILLION in pay for what will be essentially a part time job! Bottom line is it's easy money for working less than half of the extra 5 years.
