100-125 (+100 options) B787's for AA?

Reliable sources inside the aviation industry have told Flightblogger that American Airlines intends to place a "massive" narrow and wide-body order at the Paris Air Show that includes:

- Boeing 787s - 100-125 firm, plus another 100 options
- Additional Boeing 777s - firm number unknown
- Boeing 737s - 100 firm, options unknown

Well, that would be a great start. The 737s are needed to replace a portion of those super-junky MD80s. The 787s would be a logical replacement for many of those 767-200s and 300s.

I would expect a massive order from Delta also announced in Paris.
 
Isn't AA spending significant money on reupholstering the interiors on the 767s and 757s? Everything I've read states AA is keeping capacity down...I can't see AA spending so much money to redo all the interiors of those airplanes if they are just going to replace them.

If you placed an order today for a 787 you wouldn't see it on the line until 2013ish or later. Boeing's 787 line is sold out years in advance, as is the 737 line. They will have plenty of time to recoup any refurbishment costs.

Delta likely to order 787s this year, says CEO

Delta Air Lines will likely be the first of the big three U.S. legacy airlines to order Boeing's 787, chief executive Gerald Grinstein said Friday in Seattle.
The 74-year-old Grinstein, set to leave Delta this summer after guiding it through Chapter 11, said his successor will make any order decision — but he'd be surprised if the carrier doesn't buy its first Dreamliners by the end of the year.
In the last year Delta added more than 60 new international routes, which typically require long-range widebody jets.
Delta flies more than 100 mid-size 767 jets. Grinstein, in town for the Microsoft CEO summit, said in a brief interview that those planes need to be replaced starting as early as 2011.
"Of course, you could wait for the (Airbus) A350," he said, "But why?"
The new Boeing jet is "perfect" for the needs of the U.S. carriers, with the right size and the necessary range, he said. The bigger A350 rival that Airbus is proposing could be too big for many of the routes Delta wants to fly, Grinstein said.
"Boeing has got it right," he said..
Grinstein said he is not worried about the availability of delivery slots for the 787, because Boeing can always "miraculously" find slots when it needs them for a big order. The company does that either through keeping some delivery slots available for significant customers or by arranging for other airlines to defer their orders until later.

Boeing builds these jets all over the planet and does the final assembly in Seattle. The scarcity of 787's to meet demand is likely to be one of the down stream suppliers.

Yawn. General you're so out of touch it's scary. Yeah, I'm sure DAL will have no problems with those "miraculous" slots. Nothing to bring down a thread than GL's kool-aid drinking DAL mantra. Which is of course the same mantra he's been using for every post since I've been on here.
 
Don't bet any money on it. Like so many of these idiot bloggers, this guy is probably floating a story with no basis in anything, yet somehow plausible. Do it often enough and something might come true.

I don't see AA placing any significant aircraft orders for at least another year or two. They have more pressing issues to handle right now such as GIVING US OUR F-----G MONEY BACK!

good!!!!!!!! I hope you get it back. On the other note, swa will be the launch customer for the narrow body version of the 787. You heard it here first.

Keep in mind the 'Paris' airshow is not until 2009. It rotates every other year with Farnbouroghoh-oh. So, yes, I 100% agree that AA will be placing an order for the 787, 8 months after it enters service and the fuel burn turn out 50% less than a 767 and oil goes to $100 per barrel. Of course then it will be 7 months too late.
 
My mama could have 50 787's tomorrow if she had the cash.

You boys need to get in touch with the real world and how it operates. I have got two things for you to google:

1. Udvar Hazy
2. ILFC

If AA wants a fleet of 75-787's they can have them before CAL gets there's. All it takes is cash. Of which AA has plenty of, $5.7 billion on hand as of last quarter (announced yesterday)

This where Hazy makes his money. I just wish I had his balls. Place options on aircraft that you know will sell and then lease them to airlines who need them now. For a premium............

The man is a genius, so much so the Smithsonian has a wing named after him. At last check he had 78-787's on order and just forced the French to redesign the A350.

He is so smart that he has already calculated what the cost savings of operating the 787 is and how much his premium should be so that who ever he leases the 787's can make a little money over the term of the lease while he makes big $$$$ leasing out the aircraft.

Look him up on Forbes richest list. He's a billionaire and I had the opportunity of meeting him in a G5 recurrent, last spring. He owns one and he flies it.

I don't think GL wrote that article.

No, you're right. My point was no matter the topic or on which airline, the GL will post DAL garbage on a thread that has nothing to do with DAL in the first place. He did this here on an AA thread about 78's and he does it continuously on SWA threads. It's that broken record that has absolutely haenious music and no one can change it.
