Hey guys,
I have a few questions for anyone who currently flies a metro. I've received different and conflicting answers from fellow pilots, and I was hoping for added input.
1. In my groundschool manual (electrical systems chapter, DC voltmeter switch), it states..... "to read the output of...
Hey guys,
I don't fully understand the purpose of an NTS system. I was reviewing the manual for the SA226 and it says that the NTS allows the props to windmill for an air restart at about 70% of feather. Is an NTS system supposed to be an alternative to an auto-feather system? If you have an...
Hey guys,
I've tried to find the link to this movie that was posted on this board a long time ago. The old URL no longer works, and I have been unsuccesful in locating it elsewhere on the web.
Anyone have a current updated link?
Thanks.
Hey guys,
I accidentally posted this question in a non-related forum, so I'll repost it here:
I was just curious as to whether or not the position of the CG will have any effect on Vy (i.e. the speed in terms of IAS), and, will it have any effect on your ability to achieve a maximum climb...
Hey guys,
I was just curious as to whether or not the position of the CG will have any effect on Vy (i.e. the speed in terms of IAS), and, will it have any effect on your ability to achieve a maximum climb rate? (i.e. if the CG is more aft, will it be able to obtain a higher rate of climb at...
Hey guys,
I know that the basic operation of DME is as follows: a/c transeiver sends out a signal to a ground station; the ground station then sends a signal back to the a/c, but on a different frequency, which is used to calculate the distance based on the time elapsed with transmission and...
Just looking for some different opinions on the following scenario:
You've been cleared to enter a hold, inbound on your final approach course for an NDB app. The turns are to be made on the opposite side of the procedure turn. Now assume it's a direct entry, and you experience an engine...
Hey guys,
Just reading up on some systems/performance info and the metro, and it's gotten me thinking.
For anyone who flies a turbine a/c, do you know what your Vmc is? Seems like an odd question, but it seems that with heavier, more advanced aircraft (like twin turbines), it can be rather...
Hey guys,
I'm having a bit of a brain-fart here. I understand the relationship between Va and weight (higher weight=higher Va). It seems intuitive to me that Va should also vary with altitude, however, I can't find any references to prove/disprove my assumption.
The way I look at it is that...
Hey guys,
Just reviewing the systems for the Metro, and I've run into a little bit of confusion.
I really don't understand the difference or significance of an "auto" ignition system. I was under the impression that the igniters were always on continously; however, according to the AFM, the...
Hey guys,
Can someone explain the difference between alternating current and direct current output? I just don't really understand why some systems require AC, while others require DC. What makes one system require one type of power input, but not the other?
Thanks in advance.
Hey guys,
I was speaking to some people today and I got some conflicting opinions. I'm hoping you guys can clarify!
1. Some people argued that the aircraft's electrical systems are powered directly by the battery, while the alternator is simply there to reenergize the battery and to prevent...
Hey guys,
Why is it recommended that if there is windshear on takeoff, you should use a high pitch attitude close to "stick shaker"? To me this seems unsafe- ie) you'd be close to stall, and if there is windshear, the risk of stalling is high.
Thanks in advance.
Hey guys,
I have a few questions on "thrust," and I hope some of you guys/gals can shed some light. (keep in mind I have no experience whatsoever flying any high-performance or turbine machines).
1. I don't understand why the "thrust available" curve when considering jets, is a straight...
Hey guys,
I know that Vne applies to piston a/c while Vmo applies to turbine a/c. They are both technically "limitation" speeds designed to prevent airframe damage from excessive dynamic pressures. I am also somewhat familiar with Mmo (also a limitation speed), which applies to a/c flying near...
Hey guys,
Let's say you have been cleared to enter a hold, and just as you enter it (i.e. as you cross the beacon/VOR/etc), you experience an engine failure in a twin.
Is it best to continue in the turn and try to manage the a/c, or, is it better to level out and go through the procedures...
Hey guys,
Here is a question from an ATP workbook:
Which of the following factors will increase V1 speed:
a) increase in weight.
b) reverse thrust capability.
c) snow/slush on the runway.
d) an increase in tailwind.
The correct answer is "a." When I try to think about it, it doesn't really...
Hey guys,
I understand that circuit breakers provide a form of protection against excessive current. Looking at electrical system diagrams of various a/c, I see that the circuit breakers have many different amp limits (i.e. 5 amp CB, 10 am CB, etc).
This may seem like a dumb question, but...
Hey guys,
Can anyone please explain the following terms and their significance:
1. Normal Differential Range
2. Isobaric Range.
Thanks in advance,
Chris.
