jamiestrat i've been flying for a us regional since 2002 ( as a green card holder), have never have any problems having my "background check" done at my 6 month sim session, it has always been taken care of by the company, you should be fine -

Unusual airline call signs
From AIM: Air Taxi or other commercial operators not having FAA authorized call signs should prefix their normal identification with the phonetic word "Tango." -
