Wear a suit. You can always take off the jacket if you feel it's necessary.
I remember my interview session in 2002...we had a group of 20 people interview, only 2 people didn't wear suits. Maybe they got hired, maybe not....don't know. But, I can tell you they stood out in the crowd...
Congrats 172driver & welcome aboard!
As you'll find out soon, NJA has its' issues, just as every company does. But, overall it's a pretty good place to be......certainly beats ALL the regionals.
As far as what a/c to choose? Just take the first available class!
See ya next year.
Just to clear up something stated above, Berkshire Hathaway is NOT a private company.
You can get limited NJA financial information from Berkshire Hathaway financial reports although a lot of the $$$ numbers are lumped in with Flight Safety. See http://www.berkshirehathaway.com/ for links...
Welcome aboard!
Surprisingly, you will get used to packing for 7 days in that bag. I remember when 4-5 day trips seemed like an eternity. Now, 7 days is the norm, and it all fits in the 22' Costco roller bag. The bag still fits in the airline's overheads. You'll learn to get creative...
EGLEFO4LIFE, welcome aboard. Don't sweat the aircraft training. Review memory items, limits, sops, basic system stuff and you'll be golden. Also, I've learned a lot from the union site. Don't be afraid or bashful to post stuff. Whatever info you are seeking, there are probably 10 other guys...
Congrats on the job. The XL is a nice ride...but a very busy fleet!
To answer some of your questions:
A lot of the XL pilots wear the Telex headsets with the foam ear plugs. Works pretty well in the XL. Some opt for noise cancelling headsets.
I used my airline flt case for a while when...
Also, a very satisfied Costco bag customer. I have the 22' model, thinking about upgrading to the 26' (these 7 day trips can be long!).
Will the 26' Costco bag fit in the overhead on the airlines? Do the flt attendants give you any grief? Thanks.
There is a Holiday Inn Express right down the street on Central. Pretty new hotel with decent in-hotel restaurant as well as others around within walking distance, free internet, decent workout facilities, pool, etc.
"Will having a Cessna Excel Type rating behoove the chances of being hired with your company?"
More important to being competitive is that you are flying a turbine a/c as PIC. Doesn't necessarliy have to be one that we fly. Some people have been hired here without turbine time at all, but...
208starcheck,
You tell us to "get an education" and yet that has got to be one of the most uneducated posts I have ever seen. Please tell us you are kidding! 125K/year will ruin NJA? Not in a million years.
"If Netjets started paying their 5th year captains 125k, I wouldn't want to go work...
jetbluedog,
Maybe a few appointments with Dr. Phil would boost your self esteem so you don't need to take take pleasure in the (supposed) demise of others?
Perhaps I misunderstood the point of your post, but it sure seems energetic and enthusiastic. To quote you, "GOODBYE NIGHT-TIME CHECK...
Got to the hotel about 3 hours late one night. Front desk person thought we weren't coming so she gave away one of our rooms. So, now there is only 1 room left. Claims there are no rooms available in town. So, wtfo, we agree to share the room becuz we were exhausted. Get upstairs and find...
From this past Sunday's Chicago Tribune.
