This is EXACTLY why I feel torn between federal work and the airlines! I've got it great (from all logical perspectives) to stay at the governemnt, yet I am always drawn back to the airlines. After 9 years on furlough, I still feel the airline "family" is much more appreciative and welcoming...
For some reason my reply was cut short.
Federal gig, all the bennies and such. Just don't enjoy it, call it ADD or whatever, but I get absolutel;y ZERO job satisfaction and dread walking in to work every morning. I can stay where I am at and do very well, just not sure that's what will...
Again, I hear the constant bitching about the airline industry, but most of those whining have never had to do anything else. Until they walk in a furloughees shoes, quit yer bitchin!
...than expected and career dreams are squashed just like they were before getting out of aviation!
My goal, collect lawsuit money, fly for fun and F*CK managemnt! I'd like to make a living at it, but at this point, I just wanna have fun (Cue the Cyndi Lauper Tunes!)
I'm sick and tired of...
Tim,
try working 9-5, RIO will seem like the best gig going. I understand the hesitance, but those coming back ACTUALLY dealt with the real world and would be ecstatic to except the lesser assigmment of dealing with RIO. Try a windowless building for six years!
Anyhow, look forward to...
I seem to remeber "covering" the Comair guys when they went on strike. $100-$300 per month as I remember. So what did that get me? I and every othe ALPA guy paid the asessment for several months if I recall. They will assess and you will pay!
A pension, what a glorius thought!!!!!!!!!!!!! For all the bad mouthing of AA, at least they didn't sell out the pension crowd. 9+ years on furlough and I can say that eith a straight face!
Weren't the majority of JB guys hired after 9/11? I don't think date of hire will hurt many furloughed AMR folks. I know we had a bunch of furloughees go to JB, which naturally occured after 911
I haven't touched an airplane in 8 yrs. If I take the max deferral, I'll be looking at easily 15 years on the beach. They damn well better train to proficiency, because I'd be scared to jump on any airplane I was flying after 15 years!
Good on em'!
The entire AA crew will suddenly realize they are not replaceable. The TWA stews were some of the best, and it will be the best day in AA history when they can once again take charge.
Pilots next!
In the mean time have the stones to say your MEC made a choice you have a hard time living with and you expect the next generation of ALPA pilots to pay for the realities of the free market....
Which generation would that be, the ones who "bought" their airline jobs?
The most important part of this conversation has been LOS. If I can get LOS, I'll retire on furlough and give me golden ticket to whomever wants it!
No amount of cash will take away what LOS can give the furloughees!
