chances are the controller may have departures to get out and by taking you out a little further, that creates a hole (appropriate spacing) otherwise not there. backing up departures.
Fox:
Forgot to mention.
They are going to be changing the process for IFT soon. The DOD will oversee operations from what I have heard and will contract out to a bidder (such as Serco, etc) to run the IFT program from one location (like in the old days at Hondo). Last rumor I heard it was...
hey Fox:
I was an IP at Holloman and Beale AFB. I was a civilian/dependent(hubby was USAF ATC). I got the job at Holloman by talking to the chief flight instructor and going through the same process as a civilian flight school (interview/flight check).
I taught initial flight training to...
Hey:
http://www-p.afsv.af.mil/Aero/default.htm
That link will give you more info and tell you all the locations of bases with aero clubs.
As for civilians flying out of base, it depends on the base. I was an instructor at Holloman AFB (no civilians/CAP were allowed to fly on base due to...
My hubby is ATC at Williams Gateway and I am a CFII/MEI here. We just moved, and until we get to know the area we are renting in the Gilbert area. We have a new 2 story home on a golf course and pay $1100 a month in rent.
It is a nice area with alot of growth.
Just my 2 cents for ya :)
Yes it is government age discrimination to not hire ex military ATC after age 31. However the gov't can do anything they want. Bunch of crap in my view, but what are you going to do.
Yes Serco is a British based company. They have a lot of gov't contracts. They handle all the West and SW FAA Contract Tower contracts. Looks like they are getting together with the DOD for USAF IFT now.
A little organization to IFT would not be bad. As it is right now, aero clubs and civilian...
there is an external hiring freeze. any new hires are transfers within the FAA. I have a few DOD buddies waiting on slots and my hubby is stuck in a contract tower due to the ridiculously stupid age 31 cut off rule.
Hey: has anyone heard a rumor of Serco (ATC contractor for FAA) taking over IFT for the USAF? I taught IFT at Holloman AFB a few years ago and heard some rumor of a gov't contractor taking it over.
ATC Shortage
I hear ya. I am a pilot/IP and my hubby is ATC. He served 11 yrs in the USAF as ATC but got out after age 31, so no FAA for him I think that rule is ridiculous. I know the FAA rationale: they want 20+ good years out of a controller before mandatory retirement, however wouldn't...
Hiya again...I interviewed Feb 13th...I was a lower time pilot hence the reason I was in the pool a bit longer...they wanted my time to get up there. :) First yr FO is $1466 (monthly guaran.)
