Since my detent spring failed I have been able to evaluate the lost motion in the standard cable installation.

There is about 3 clicks worth of lost motion. So, if I pull the mixture control out very slowly with a finger on the panel to allow fine control, I can set the fuel flow to the value I want. To increase the fuel flow slightly I have to push in the equivalent of about 3 clicks before anything changes.

A vernier control with the same amount of lost motion would be useless. I would not consider any vernier control cable unless I knew the lost motion was far less than for the existing cable.

I now have several flights since the detent spring failed and there is no sign of any mixture creep. I prefer the operation without the detent.

McFarlane is coming out with a newer compact style Vernier mixture control expected to release in February. Looks interesting, I may have to give this one a try. Thoughts?

That looks nice. Would that include replacing the OEM mixture cable?

Yes, it is not just a knob, the entire cable is part of the unit. I ordered one. I'm going to collect vernier cables and sell them when I'm 90. Sanford & Son v2.
