I wouldn't necessarily "welcome" it but I certainly don't think it'd be the end of the World like a lot of Alaska folks would. We'd get a fair deal via MB, negotiate industry leading rates, and move on. All I'd care about is protecting the bases. Not interested in being based anywhere East of San Diego.

Actually, I think it would be a pretty easy integration. AK would fence base in SEA, DL could fence anything bigger than 737. Everyone would be happy!

Ok, I'll add my conspiracy theory (tin foil hat on). Delta makes it look like a battle with Alaska, building up the northwest. American uses Alaska to fly it's west coast connections, thinking it's safe. Delta aquires Alaska and owns the west coast. American is left with it's pants down on the west coast. That's why I say American should eventually have it's own west coast operation. Well, that and I'm a westie. :)

I thought American has a west coast operation - in LAX and now PHX

And that's why we need to buy Hawaiian.

DL has 228 new mainline planes coming, some for replacement. (Although hearing since profits are high, some 757s may not retire as quickly). I'm hearing hiring may increase to 600 next year, and continue that way indefinitely.

So....... I have a feeling 99.9% of the DL pilots want internal growth first. Hopefully it's time DL pilots fly those West Coast flights again, which went away after Leo Mullin took over. It doesn't have to be huge, but rather enough to feed that SEA hub sufficiently. I think 10-12 717s would be a good start.

If DL adds a 737 base in SEA prior, then it would be open. Remember, there is currently a 757/767 (ER) and an A330 pilot base in SEA. Those would likely be fenced for decades (career expectations---no widebodies at AK or anything bigger than a 739ER). DL also has a 737 and 757/767 base at LAX. I could maybe see a fence around PDX and ANC for awhile, but it appears ANC may shrink with Horizon Dash-8-400s possibly taking intra Alaska routes.

I honestly don't know if any of this would or could happen, but I hope it doesn't. Internal growth would be a lot better, and as of right now, it seems like internal growth may happen.

Fence ANC, SEA,PDX,LAX, and possibly SAN and fence the delta WB and I'd have no problem at all with that. I'm still hoping to never have to deal with it however.

Ummmm DL 737 base in LAX, and plenty of DL guys living in SAN. I'd think this latest tiff with AK may cause the airline to move more narrow bodies to the NW, and the 737 or 717 could be possibilities.
