Then that CEO must be planning to not shrink their regionals at all and let mainline shrink instead as pilots leave

His airline's plan is to shrink the RJ fleet a lot and fly more mainline planes...he is worried that they won't be able to crew the mainline planes they are acquiring.

More evidence of the shortage: Jet Airways, and Indian carrier, just announced hiring for a JFK base. It is the first Indian airline to open US pilot bases.

And, in case you missed it, there are now two Chinese carriers with US, N. American, European and Australian pilot bases. Until about last year, no mainland Chinese airline had pilot bases outside of China.

Then he not only doesn't plan to hire many of the regional's pilots that have been flying his passengers, he plans to only hire those with Space shuttle or SR-71 time... Or he's a CEO for a place like JetBlue that will see his pilots also leave for Legacy jobs, or Frontier that has more than just pilots to worry about.

That will leave plenty of Jetblue and Frontier slots for Regional pilots. Those will be better than Regional jobs coming up here.

Bye Bye---General Lee

The only "Pilot Shortage" will be for pilots with actual pilot skill sets.
A bunch of no talent recent graduates is not what the Big Boys will hire any time soon.
Flush all the Regional Lifers over 45 out of the mix, and you have the Big Boys hiring pretty much whomever they please from the military, corporate, and other second tier carriers. The guys who are holding the short end of the stick are the third rate regionals (Masalba, Colgan, Pinnacle, etc) who will continue to be a revolving door to something better.

That's interesting.... a bunch of us third rate guys have been hired at DL, United, American/US Airways, and FedEx.

I could be wrong but I think the 3rd rate comment was more in regards to the compensation rather than the people. Thus the revolving door comment.

He is already hiring many of his regional feed pilots, and has plans to hire many more....and he is CEO for one of the big 3...AA/DAL/UAL.

Then R.A. is blowing smoke up your channel. He could hire 99% of Endeavor pilots this moment if he chose... He chose not to.

1500 ATP guy, where does he go.....same place a 3000 hour fo will go with no chance to up grade.... WHO ever is getting new planes with growth providing a chance for a quick up grade! Same reason we all picked what ever regional we started at!
