Is the answer really that simple? Or is it more that very cutting edge technology has its risk?

Lack of quality from outsourced work. Cost over runs. Improper fittings, delays. Quality issues from foreign providers. Just a mess from the inception of the 787 project. I doubt the 787 will ever be a money maker for Boeing. How many billions has the project over by???. The only thing saving Boeing from a complete company melt-down is the success of the 737 and the military contracts.
