Emirates could order up to 275 777-X aircraft for replacement & expansion! Article

Now that would be a huuuuuuge order! Is it likely the EK A350 order would then be dead in the water?

Bloomberg Article:

Emirates, the biggest operator of the Boeing Co. (BA) 777, is pressing for more information about a successor aircraft before considering an order for the replacement of the U.S. manufacturer?s bestselling airliner.

?We?re working closely to get to specifications we?re happy with,? Emirates President Tim Clark said in an interview in Paris today. ?That means layouts, the seats, the galleys, getting the weights right, getting the fuel burn.?
Clark has said he may need as many as 275 777s for replacement and expansion, a requirement so large his airline is likely to become the so-called launch customer of the successor plane. While Emirates is more advanced in talks with Boeing than other carriers, it doesn?t expect to be ready to table an order at the Paris Air Show in June, Clark said.

Boeing?s 777 is the centerpiece of the planemaker?s wide-body strategy, a lucrative segment of the civil aviation market that?s coming under fresh attack from Airbus SAS and its new A350, specifically the A350-1000 that?s similar in size.

The Airbus model will hold 350 passengers and is promising 25 percent greater operating efficiency than the best-selling 777 variant, the 777-300ER. The successor, dubbed 777X, will have new wings and engines. Boeing in March named a general manager for the project and said General Electric Co. (GE), the sole powerplant supplier for the 777-300ER, would be the engine partner.
Emirates has ordered a total of 139 777 planes, which seat about 365 people and cost $315 million at list price in the most popular variant. Customers typically receive discounts.

Other airlines that have expressed potential interest in the 777X include IAG SA (IAG)?s British Airways unit and Deutsche Lufthansa AG. (LHA)

I fully expect they will place a large order in the next year or so. This will be the largest order ever for any aircraft manufacturer so the stakes are enormous for Boeing/Airbus. Good high paying American jobs to support the ever expanding Middle Eastern carriers, hopefully. It seems as the Big 3 Gulf Carriers are on an ultra Ego trip but Emirates by far has the best business model/plan. Will be interesting for sure to watch this unfold.

And you think the US economy will be immune to that then? EK did fine in Gulf War 1, Gulf War 2 and the "Arab Spring".

If it kicks off in Iran, guess what? no more Tehran night turnarounds. Yippee!!!!

We will survive as always. Your 2 million or so country will be in pieces... You have no oil

Which country is that sniper? do you even know?

the country you live and become a lover of

from skywest brazilia to a big bus....whoaaanow a big shot.... are you eligible to apply at the Legacies or you have a dirty loundry that makes you ineligible?

i know many at the Gulf Airlines like you. dont feel bad just get use to it. back and forth to india is better than skywest i guess

keep defending them because you probably have no other choice

I live here and make a good living and I chose to do that. I don't wish to continue the rat race in the greatest nation on earth.....so far!! I have all the pre requisites for qualification at a major, but it's just beyond your fundamental grasp that there is a happy existence outside the USA so back to the question, name the country with no oil or are you just an ignorant xenophobe?

In 2003/4 when Emirates was hiring DECs a USAirways A320 captain slipped through the cracks somehow joining as a DEC on the A330. He was of the same skin color that sniper claims to be. He failed training and was terminated by the chief pilot and fleet manager also of that same skin color ( GN and LL ). Couldn't play the race card here and incompetent pilots are not allowed to stay, no matter what their skin color or gender happen to be. He went to Air Arabia as a DEC on the A320. Scary thought actually.

Wondering if sniper is one and the same?

It would explain the vitriol anyway and, if true, would explain to the audience here where it comes from.

So for the guys flying for them......why is emirates so successful? How do they afford the new planes and the highly compensated ex-pat staff and still charge competitive fares?

I have flown Emirates and several of the carriers over there and it was always great service.

I don't think that the fares are that competitive. Most of the time, Emirates have some of the highest fares on a route. Passengers like being treated with respect, having an all inclusive product without getting nickle and dimed to death, and knowing they will fly a multi-hour segment on a nice newer more spacious wide body airplane. That and great advertising/route planning all contribute to the success IMO.

With that said because of the deterioration of pay/conditions in other parts of the world and a steady stream of pilots now trying to get in the door over here, we are not seeing the same yearly QOL improvements to our T&C that we have in the past. It is very troubling and if I was looking at joining EK now, I would definitely think 3 or 4 times about it because of the deteriorating T&C and because of an extended upgrade time due to getting hired past the peak expansion.

how much are your landing fees for a 777 at Dubai and how much is at JFK?

Have you wonder about that,

Your Company is subsidized and we need to stop that as proud ALPA members and Americans

sorry that you dont like that

How much money were the U.S. majors given by the U.S. government after 9-11?

How many times have major U.S. carriers used bankruptcy to shed their debt? Debt brought on by poor management.

Can't have your cake and eat it too.
