You can almost always find bin space if you look for a "soft target". Insert hand into bin and slide everything towards one end, insert bag, everyone's happy.

In the same situation, I've stepped off planes when there was no bag space and the pilots said no.

I won't let my bag go to baggage claim unless it's my final destination. No way I'm going down to claim it then try to reboard another carrier.

I appreciate Bill and others calling this guy what he is....we all have d!cks at all airlines so it could have been anyone. Really an unfortunate incidient.

I don't jumpseat much anymore, but I believe it is my companies policy that no bags can be stored up front in the cockpit that are not owned by someone riding in the cockpit. JS rider may bring his bag, but we can't store it if he sits in the back.

Not certain on this.

Update - bag found and on its way to the airport here. Never made it in the cargo bin of the airplane. How does a bag not get from the cabin of the airplane to the cargo bin of the same airplane??

I'd take that bet, because I guarantee you it wasn't DAL.

I've seen it happen on a different airline. OFTEN

Really? You guarantee it????? He's a 717 pilot who is commuting on a 757. Last time I checked, most AirTran 717s operate out of ATL and Delta operates A LOT of 757s out of ATL. Hope not but just sayin'........

My company booked me on a certain airline flying 1900's between TPA-MIA several years ago. Positive space, paid ticket. Of course I had to leave my bag planeside at the wing. Baggage door standing wide open. Load factor was about 50% (because most people know better and would rather drive, but I digress...)

NO bags made it onto that airplane. None of the checked bags, none of the planeside bags. Zero, zip, nada. I imagined some ramper was laughing hysterically as we taxied away from the gate.

The gate agent throws it out the jetway door into the slide chute where the bags slides down to the bottom and stays because no one tells the rampers and they don't bother to make a final check.
