It is disquieting to realize that Bringupthebird has so little compassion for his fellow man that he would actually gloat over the potential for wrecked careers and families being put on the street. Happily he will be disappointed when these two do NOT lose their jobs since all the guy did was sit on the jumpseat for a minute or two at the gate and they quickly figured it out.

NOPE! If what was reported is accurate, they willfully disregarded the safeguards put in place by procedure and put the passengers at risk. Suppose the guy was a litttle more savvy with a jumpseat... They need to GO!

I could easily see the FAA suspending the J/S for US at least until they are satisfied that it couldn't happen again.

The east pilot's legacy to the industry - the gift that keeps on giving!

Think of how many pilots (east and west) may be forced to stay in hotels if they cannot J/S on-line to get to and from work, and all because a couple guys thought they were above policy and procedure.

Perhaps their union's disregard for the rules helped establish such a culture among their members.

Kudos to the observant gate agent that stepped in and spoke up.
