Gentlemen, I commend you for keeping this epic thread vibrant and going strong for 1261 days straight. Late in the night last night as the last swig of Coors washed down the last warm bight of taquito, and the needle finished the last song on my Dwight Yoakam record; I thought to myself, "Self, what about the last page of the GeezerMeter Bylaws you never read?" I put on my slippers, crushed out my last cigarette and went to my safe. I moved aside the guns, ammo boxes, small knives and letters from current and past lovers and proceeded to pull out the GeezerMeter Bylaws. I lit a candle and turned to the last page in the last volume of a mysterious set of books that a stranger left on my door step many years ago. What I read was short an too the point:

Volume 9, Article CVIXXIMCII, Chaper 23, Page 356:


"The GeezerMeter should live on as a rememberence of 5 difficult, unnecessary years of stagnation. Moreover, and most importantly, it shall become a tribute to the future movement in our seniority list and the "acknowledement" of experienced pilots that retire."


How I took this: If you have a number of retirements daily, monthly, or annualy you'd like to share or even a retirement story, feel free to pass it on.

The Meter will become unsticky tomorrow. It will be up to us to keep the GeezerMeter alive.

First retirement at SWA in the post-GeezerMeter era is a 4-digit Check Pilot. Day after tomorrow. With 3 more gummers to go for the year.

Also, we owe a tip of the hat to humveedriver as the founding father of the thread. I'll raise one in honor of him tomorrow.

We've had two at VX, believe it or not. One about 5 months ago, and the other about 13 days ago - the most recent was former SWA who missed the rule changeover by like 2 weeks apparently while at SWA. He's also been VERY vocal about advocating pushing it to age 67 & was gunning to be a Virgin Galactic 'astronaut' the whole time he was here.
-Unfortunately, those will be only ones at VX for a LOOONNG time.-

Boy have I been waiting patiently, because of this 5 year debacle, I've had 3 furloughs, and 2 lay offs.......only contract work right now and sim instructing..... Maybe it will turn around?? God I hope so!!! Thanks for the geezer meter guys!!!! It helped vent the frustration a bit!!!

It's time for the geezers to do what they needed to do 5 years ago!!! I did not get an extra 5 years like they wanted us to believe I lost 5 years with only 10 years to go.... That's a third gone never to return!

Despite a low tonight in the 30's, I will be firing up the grill. Gonna spend way more than normal on a real good steak. Kick off with a Bud Clamato with a Patron shooter. Then sip a sixer of some IPA. Tom Petty's "The waiting" will rotate frequently thru tonight's playlist. I'm looking forward to seeing every pilot "waiting" get a break.

I had no idea when I wrote that original post how important those retirements would be to me. Thanks to all the posters who kept the geezer meter going. To those retiring, farewell. My intent of this thread was never meant to be disrespectful. Given the consolidation of the industry, the retirements are more important now than when I wished everyone luck in 2009. All there is left to do now is countdown my own geezer meter ;-)
