Starting January 1, 2014, the dues rate for active members will be 1.90 percent—a reduction of .05 percent. This was made possible due to the initiatives the Association has implemented to work smarter, save money, and be more fiscally responsible with our dues income. The change reduces the dues rate that has been in place since 1994, and establishes a dues rate that will be the lowest rate ALPA pilots have paid since 1985.


I think Jerry Atkin should increase SKYW pay by .05 % on the same day just to rub it in.

Actually, the ALPA BOD voted to cut the dues rate to 1.9%. Tell the full story, Joey. The fact of the matter is, most ALPA pilots will see a dues reduction from this change.

Why will some ALPA pilots end up paying a bit more than they do right now? Because up until now, some pilots (myself included) did not pay dues on their voluntary 401k contributions, while other pilots did. Pilots that had only a 401k plan and no A-Fund or B-Fund pension were exempt from paying dues on their contributions. The result was that many pilots were paying effective dues rates lower than the stated 1.95%, while most members were paying the 1.95% rate. Now, as a proponent of the so-called "fair tax," I'm surprised you could stand behind such a system, Joey. Shouldn't everyone pay the same effective rate? Isn't that "fair?"

Yes. The vote was nearly 80%, in fact. Not exactly a close vote.

Quoting the DPA's web site as a source for information? Now that's just funny.

The ALPA president is paid 100 hours per month at the pay rate of the aircraft he can hold at Delta, which is a 767-400. He receives a 26% override to account for the fact that he's working nearly 365 days a year, while the average pilot is working far less. That's a total compensation package of $335,654, a far cry from the DPA's absurd claims. There are more than a few Delta pilots making more money than the ALPA president, while working far less.

Furthermore, the BOD at this meeting voted to cut the president's pay down to 95 hours effective January 2015. And if that's not enough for you, the BOD also voted to screw him over even more by refusing to allow him the profit sharing payments that other Delta pilots receive. Doesn't exactly sound like a great deal to me.

The FairTax doesn't have everyone paying the same effective tax rate.

That's because your DC plan has the money going into the same pot as your 401k plan. You don't have two plans, just two names for the same plan in your CBA.
