Looks like the dream is dead. Word is no iPads, Jepp cut their rates and the iPads are no longer cost effective over Jepps.

Get used to the 40 lb bag......

I'm surprised they don't give you guys airside. The skywest side has it, obviously it's cheaper.

Those Jepps might become pricey once the additional fuel burn is factored in and results in major partner's wanting less money for the same work.

anyone really shocked? can't remember last time we had anything good happen around here

could always be negotiated in the new contract.....

Don't call in sick. They'll fire ya!!

The beatings will continue....and will increase.

Cheap, cheap, cheap, cheap, cheap, cheap, cheap.

It was a sham from the beginning to put pressure on Jeppesen to lower costs. Did you really believe that management here wanted to make life easier on us?

One thing has nothing to do with the other!!! What does jepp care if we use paper or reader? If they are cheaper now fine, subscription is the same either way

I'm not sure how the fee structure is set up, but obviously someone would be saving BIG $$$ by eliminating massive printing costs, thousands of pounds of paper, and associated massive shipping costs.

They certainly care if SkyWest, Inc was looking at a different chart vendor for the iPads (I've heard they were). Potentially losing a contract for 7500 customers would get Jeppessen's attention. However, I think the biggest problem is that the SkyWest board doesn't want to make the big initial investment while they are losing money, even if it would be cheaper in the long run.

Didn't SH say the airside shipsets were cheaper for Skywest than Expressjet due to the shipping costs?

With the ERJ going through Denver as much as it is I would imagine they are going to reevaluate the product once Expressjet returns to profitability.

This!

Ship sets are fine as long as all manuals are included so I can just keep my copies electronically to avoid back and shoulder issues and manual updates.

Grumpy Old Men Version 2.

I could care less about iPads as long as we can get Airside ship sets.

Back injury, OJI. Worked like magic!

Doesn't look like ship sets are in the works, either. Something about shipping costs.

Keep hoisting....

How about they convert that next performance plus bonus into a tablet that we get to keep and use in lieu of paper plates, not that I want to eat off it?

The cost of all that crap is passed on to the consumer. In this case, the airline. Do you think that Jepp is going to slit their own throats by charging LESS for electronic? NOPE, they don't. The pricing structure is the SAME, if not more for electronic.

The cost savings incentive for the company is in the OJi spectrum.

So if you could care less then you must care. What will get you to the point where you COULDN'T CARE LESS?

SkyWest inc., wont do anything unless the "rate of return" is around 18 months... The EFB SkyWest was looking at was. 3 year "r or r" they cut out the FA's pad and that brought it down to 2 years... Still no go. So airside was bought...they said it was about a 1 year "r of r".. Ipads wil come. As soon as 80% of other airlines have them and work out the bugs. And at that point it will make it worth it..

I think a hybrid is what is coming. Pilots can choose to carry plates or a personal mobile device....approved by the company/FAA, ie ipad only. Cost for Jepps will go down since a lot of pilots will choose not to use them so subscription will be less. No cost for the company on tablets since it would be personally owed. So it will be a choice. Pay to play basically. As long as IT get enough security in the system to make them happy, and agree, that is what I see happening. Wait for the Windows tablets in the fall too. IT departments love Windows since it requires little change to servers since almost everything they use runs on a Windows platform.

I can't wait to get a BSOD on my Windows tablet while trying to do a missed approach in the mountains.

Just what I want... A 2-inch-thick tablet with a 90-minute battery life, running the world's least stable OS. I'll pass.

Nope, see above. Less paper subscriptions just means that Jepp makes up for it in the pricing for the electronic versions. Again, Jepp isn't going to slit their throats.

Whats the source? I missed the last Jetstream if that was it!
