Southwest Airlines announced it will begin flying from Atlanta to Norfolk and Louisville starting Aug. 12.

The Dallas-based carrier, which will launch service in Atlanta next month, said among the new flights it will launch later this year are three daily nonstop flights each to Norfolk and Louisville from Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.

Southwest is adding the routes even as it announces cuts of flights operated by AirTran Airways, which Southwest acquired last year. The airline last week announced AirTran will stop flying to White Plains, N.Y. and Sarasota, Fla. from Atlanta effective Aug. 12, as part of a broader pullout of several AirTran-served cities. AirTran is the second-largest carrier at Hartsfield-Jackson, behind Atlanta-based Delta Air Lines.

ATL-SDF is great news. I spent some time at FT Knox doing some training a few years ago, and ended up going to Dayton alot of the time to get to ATL. That should be great news for pax and commuters.

This might be bad for Vision who is currently operating SDF-ATL in a 328.

Vision had previously announced they were going to end SDF-ATL service.

This is GREAT news...fares between ATL are stupidly expensive and I'm sure there are plenty of CHQ and UPS pilots thankful for the increased jumpseat opportunities.

I have a feeling the camera crews can just camp out at the SWA Louisville - ATL gate and get all the footage they will need for a year!

Grab your bag! Shirt, Shoes, and teeth not required!

And those are just the DAL employees interlining.

It's easy on you guys, there are always open seats. Thanks!

You're welcome. I hope you get a chance to ride us more and experience the culture for yourself and how we treat people. Maybe then, you'd think about that before you bash us every other post.

One line I've heard jumping on OALs more than any other, and I'll add to it from my previous carriers- "we get treated better by SWA than our own company"

I hope that's your experience and I know the vast majority of employees here take pride in that.

Godspeed!

The OYSter

I believe that a few empty seats shows that the product is priced correctly.

Southwest wins, jumpseaters win, AND the customer wins without having to be gouged with extra costs like paying to get their clothes to Grandma's house.

..... like paying to get their clothes to Grandma's house.

That's Delto's new Ad Campaign, "Fly Delto to go see Grandma!". She's working the flight.

You mean like Canyonblue that has in his avatar that Delta and Alaska suck?
