Anyone have any info on calls being made to the recently applied? Please, no E. vs. W. here. I am just getting antsy.

I would run the other way!!

As previous posters have said, it is expected that about 1/2 the announced vacancies will be filled on east coast bases. There are still 50+ West pilots furloughed that have chosen to wait for a West recall (currently). Of the announced vacancies, about 4 West pilots accepted the East recall.

I would look for calls and interviews to start up in Mid-Summer. I don't know what the response was for the cattle call (I would guess a couple thousand).

Ultimately the dust will settle. Best of Luck!!

You might have to wait a few more weeks. I believe they are filling classes with wholly-owned pilots before they start calling people off the street. Good luck!

from what i have heard, only 8 wholly owned pilots are being released. 4 piedmont and 4 psa. They are too short to release more at this time. The rest will be off the street new hires, additional wholly owned pilots will go into a pool for the next bid and future vacancies.

You might, but the other 9,000 applicants apparently feel otherwise. If Airways was in BK, they'd still have no problem finding thousands of applicants. That's how it works here in the US. There are kids lining up as we speak to drop $150K at ERAU, FSI, Purdue whatever.... and the like for a chance to find themselves at Airways, CAL, DAL and AA making far less than half of what they spent on their ratings....it's never going to be any different.

Not now, not ever.

Sad, and unfortunately true!

So, I can't stay at the regionals, I can't go to Air Tran, I can't go to U.S. Airways. I guess my only options are SWA and Delta? Give me a break. US Airways is better than the regional I am at. There is some risk, but there is also a chance it could work out well for me. This board is funny sometimes. Everyone should be trying to get on at SWA or Delta. I am sure there will be enough jobs for all of us, right?

Nope, SWA and Delta are not good enough either, haven't you heard? The only job worth having is FedEx. Hold out for it even if you have to bus tables in the meantime. Don't ever settle.

I'm not throwing you under the bus at all. Notice that I did not single out Airways, I mentioned several of the other "Legacy" carriers. Good luck, have fun while it lasts and take lots of pictures. Honestly, it's a great job, tons of fun, but that's about all. I'm not sure where you work but I suspect your assertions are correct and that taking a risk with Airways is better than where you are presently. If you really want it, I hope you get it...

My point was simply that the number of applicants will always be plentiful no matter what the circumstances, compensation or future looks like. Am I wrong?

For those curious about my agenda, here it is: I applied, really want to go, haven't heard a word, hope I do.

That is all.

You're right, it is probably best to go spend $8k on a type for the chance I will be one of the 100k applicants chosen to work at God's airline. The tops are coming off your airplanes so you can better communicate with the big man, right? Give me a break. Go play your "my airline is better than your airline" game with the General and please leave this thread for information about getting the call from an airline that is better than where I am at. Thank you.

Actually any major airline is better than Usairways.....

Okay, here's my story. I didn't finish up my four year degree while at Mesaba airlines because I figured if I ended up being stuck here flying a 900 for over $100k towards the end of my career and not commuting, I would be happy. When Delta started requiring a four year degree for us to flow, I decided it would be dumb to not take that opportunity by not having my degree, so I went back to school. Now Pinnacle bought us, I lost the flow, and I am finishing up my four year degree to get the hell out of here because I now see the errors in my previous reasoning. So, while I am finishing up my degree, if I can get on at Airways (which I seem to have a better shot at because of their reputation), it would be a good move to get out of Mesaba (because I don't trust they will be able to keep their current staffing for a couple years). Not only that, if things start looking up for Airways (becaue of new contract or merger), then I will be in a great spot. If things aren't looking up, I will look at my options at that point.

Since everyone is so excited to judge, can I get your blessing? Or maybe I should sit at my regional and take the blame for taking your flying?
