Looks like SWA isn't waiting around for the AirTran deal to close.

Attention Higher Power family:

Great news! We have been informed by Southwest Airlines Flight Operations and the People Department that SWA will be posting pilot position openings on Monday, March 7th. Currently, there is an estimated closing of this application window by March 19th (perhaps sooner) followed by 5 weeks of interviews during April and May.

For those of you interested in SWA, we suggest reviewing your resume and listing your Total Time and PIC Turbine time specifically. Military aviators can add .3 hours per sortie to their time. If you came through our B737 type rating program and wish to include it on your resume, a suggested way to do that is to add it in your section entitled Special Training or Professional Training as follows:

B-737 Type Rating: Higher Power Aviation, Ft. Worth, TX

Other resume suggestions are to eliminate “References Provided on Request” since they will certainly request them for the interview. If you have an Accomplishments or Achievements or Awards section in your resume, you might include any areas of involvement where you have demonstrated leadership or made a real difference. You may also have an Interests section of your resume and this is an opportunity to show your passions.

Again, resumes are very important in the new process at Southwest Airlines, so please pay careful attention to this representation of your life and career. Remember that career progression and leadership are key considerations.

We wish all of you the very best in your field of endeavor. Please keep us posted on your career and family developments.

If they are hired after the announcement of the merger/aquistion, then any newhires will be placed at the bottom of the list. That is exactly what happened supposedly for the DL/NWA merger thanks to the arbitrators. And talk about some stagnation at SWA. With very few scheduled retirements for years, it could be a long wait for a line or weekends/holidays off. But, the pay will be good.

I heard all the newhires at SWA will be in-front of all the Trannies when then finally get on the list....

Two viewpoints to consider OYS -

  • The Airtran deal blows up and the newhires be in great shape.
  • SWA has never flown outside the USA and we sustain 6000 pilots. What happens WHEN, not if, we leave the country.
You're Delta has a load of retirements coming....... that's all you've got. SWA still has 1,000's of pilots of upside before we saturate our possibilities.

Come on in boys and girls! I look forward to seeing you in class.

These SWA newhires will be senior to any AirTran/Guadaloupe FO if the lists are integrated. It remains to be seen about the Trannie CAs. With a straight staple, sure the newhires will be senior to all the Trannies.

Wonder if they would have hired if they thought things were going to go smoothly or if this is the result of the perceived path going forward. Pretty interesting to say the least.

It's interesting that that you see so many SWA guys jumping up and down about "someday we will fly International!" If that was so important to you, why didn't you just go to a carrier that already did? Obviously you could never reach the level of International service that DAL does, yet you guys jump up and down like it's the holy grail.

Well, maybe Boeing will manufacture a 737 that can cross the Atlantic. Then work towards the 737-TP (Trans-Pacific). Turn it in 20 minutes standing in order from A 1-30, A 31-60... Delta, BA beware!!!

Exactly! But at least he got to take a shot at WN.

He should be concerned! It will affect him! If the Hawaii thing happens for SWA, it will be just one more market and/or Airline that his airline (assuming he does work for HAL) will have to compete with...SW has it in our contract that we can inter island codeshare, whether we do the flying Inter Island ourselves, or have someone else do it for us, it will affect Dan's airline.

"Walmart" customers have to be able to get to Hawaii as well, it's there "God Given rights", You do have Walmart's in Hawaii right Dan? Not Hating Dan, Just stating the facts. Yes you guys have Big Airplanes and nice features but when it comes down to it, it's all about price! People will buy what's perceived as cheapest, so you'll still get the first class, you'll still get the "long Haul" but it'll be just another Airline in a saturated Market competing for the Tourist Dollars... At least we'll be bringing our customers with us, since apparently we have the "Walmart" flyers! ;)

Bob, this post shows a complete lack of knowledge concerning arbitrated precedent. Without a doubt, all new hires post Sep 27th will be effectively stapled to the ISL. And I am sure that they all realize that. At least I hope so.
