Riiiiiiight,

Just ask the brain surgeons over at United, the pros at Delta, Northwest Com Air, and .........thats right Alaska how the ALPA job killing machine worked out for them..go on ask them.......ALPA has destroyed this industry the best thing you could do is get back to work, stop trying to burn your company down stop demanding to be paid while sitting home running your yogurt shop and get rid of ALPA........

I'm just saying

Most AS pilots I talk with are not worried at all. SkyWest is flying QX Rj's on QX route but with Skywest pilots. that is just sick. I guess the lowest bidder one again. AS pilots should be shaking in their artic boots.

Unless you know who bid, and what they bid, it's just conjecture. I'm fairly certain that other carriers (read: Mesa) threw in bids as well, and I'm sure that AS management is savvy enough to know that the lowest bidder is NOT always the best choice.

And why would I specifically point out Mesa? Mesa is in dire straits, and is looking for any way they can to shore up their already shaky foundation.

Ironic that Alaska is actually much better positioned financially than SWA in anyway you can rate them. Stock price, profits, balance sheet etc. They established themselves by offering a better product than most and they actually fly to Mexico themselves rather than get someone else to do it for them like SWAPA allows. Simple fact is SWA has been lucky to have employee friendly management for now. ALPA may not be perfect, but if it wasn't for ALPA the AK pilots would be a lot worse off.
I'm guessing SWA was your first airline and perhaps you went with them after all the ALPA carriers turned you down. I don't know, but it wasn't long ago that people bought 737 types to get on with SWA if they couldn't get on with an ALPA carrier, is that you?
BTW, what's wrong with owning a yogurt shop? Being a successful small business owner is just as good as someone who flies airliners around.

You're probably on to something there. From what I might of heard is that AS is probably paying good $$$ for a quality product and don't mind it a bit. Good things to come from that contract and possibly additional flying in future.

The silver lining is that PERHAPS this has alerted the average AS pilot to the overwhelming need to improve our scope language in the upcoming contract.

Good product likely. Better than QX, NO. From Managements view probably, SkyWest has a lower hourly rate and costs. QX has CAT3, RNP, LPV GPS app and industry leading rates before arbitration kicks in.

Mesa, being in bankruptcy, was most likely unable to bid on this business...It was outsourced from an expensive operator (Horizon) to a cheaper operator (SkyWest).

Great Lakes is in bankruptcy, bid on and WON EAS bids. I don't see much difference here.

Knock off the name calling.. and stop reporting BS posts.. get some thicker skin.. warning are out.. suspensions coming..

end of story.. MOd cl4

Haha. I think the Section 1 at SW and Alaska are slightly different.

I hope the Alaska guys can get the holding company under Section 1, if not I fear it will eventually be off to the races for 'larger feed'. Good luck guys.

It doesn't matter because Alaska never put a RFP. They were just selling RJ's and I assume whoever was buying them got negotiate a CPA deal with Alaska.

One other problem is we did not sell them!!! We are leasing them!!!!!!
Does this open another can of worms???

It sure does, perhaps a legal one. If they had sold the jets to SKW, it would be a whole different thing. However, they're flying our airplanes on our routes under our operational control with our name on the side.

Therein lies the issue.

B.T. and B.M. both stated in person that an RFP was put out to Regionals.

By 2016 Alaska will almost exclusively be a 156 to 178 seat aircraft fleet.
Can't you hear the whispers already, "well you see we have a big hole in our capacity in the 100 to 130 seat aircraft range, and since we are a SINGLE FLEET AIRLINE........"..

I fear its inevitable...

Tatoosh

bingo...

Sounds like we need some new volunteers for the union. But I also already know the statements to that comment. I am too busy...I am too blah, blah, blah...

But I have all the answers, just listen to me rant on FI.

This is just the beginning of the clean up for the Alaska/Delta merger. It will go down much smoother without the Horizon pilots on property gumming up the list.

Another quality ALPA operation.

This decision has got to be difficult for the QX CRJ crews that are being forced to down grade to a Q400 all the while watching the likes of Skywest operate their aircraft on the QX ramp at the QX gates with QX ground handlers, food and beverage in addition to QX station ops. What a slap in the face for QX. Sad, sad day!

Why would this have any thing to do with a merger? Alaska and Horizon are separate. Air Group could sell/merge Alaska and contract Horizon to the new airline. I don't see a merger of Delta-Alaska-Horizon.

Frontier and Lynx were to seperate airlines. They got bought out by Republic. Those pilots will now all be on the same list.

That's how it will happen, if it does. Alaska will go to the highest bidder (AA or DAL). Horizon will end up in the SKW, RAH or PNCL stable.
