B-744F vs. B-777F...?

What can the B-777F "do", that appears to make it a better option to the Whale?

Just curious as to the "real-time" specs. from those flying these two types of freighters, as to how they compare to each other.

Load vs. Distance vs. cost etc....

You definitely look cooler in the whale than the giant 737 look a like, and when you lose a motor, you dont declare an emergency.

From what I have been reading, the B777F can do what the B747-200 can do with a lot less gas. But the B747-400F still cannot be replaced by the B777F unless maybe they turn a B777-300 into a cargo bird.

I guess I was just sittin' here thinking, well with all these shiny new 777F's you now see out and about, what that might spell for those of us flying "ancient" 400's at this lil ol' ACMI airline I know of.

Hope you find a better customer for the remaining 777's than Thai. They have NEVER succeeded in cargo only ops. Thai would be my next to last choice for a new plane, MAS being my last choice. I think Thai still owes Atlas money and they helped sink Focus. LH couldn't make it work either.

The B777 Freighter is more of a replacement for the MD-11 than the 747. It is in that sense a successful plane, and part of the reason FedEx likes em so much.

20,000 lbs could be the profit margin. That is not a number that works for the longer legs. I don't think the 777 can carry that load from HKG to ANC, where the B744F can.

It all depends on the freight demand and the leg length. The 777's are not going to the heavy lift folks. EK isn't using it like they thought. Mainly DXB to/from HKG. Not sure how Southern/Thai is working out. FedEx is not maxing out in weight, but in cubes, which is where 777 shines vs fuel burn.

The load the 744 carries in ten trips, will require the 777 to do 11 trips, oops, there goes the fuel savings.

Not in the long run oops... operating cost included that 9 ton loss is a drop in the bucket.
