Doing the survey. This is a juicy one. I support this provision!

Would you support a provision that would provide relief for people who can only hold reserve for long periods of time? For example, once in a given number of months a reserve would be given a regular or relief line and a senior pilot would be given reserve.
 
As a Captain on reserve for 3.5 years, I voted no to this tidbit. Seniority is what it is. When my number is finally up and I am no longer scheduling's bitch, I don't need "fair and balanced seniority" to come in and wipe that gain away.
 
FWIW, and that's nothing, I too selected "against" that proposition. I've been on reserve the better part of 4 years, and it is what it is. Hopefully no one else has to endure for that long, but such is the nature of the beast. Being junior sucks. Get over it.
 
ASA and the entire airline industry is unnaturally stagnant. Things will improve.

I don't see a problem for some relief for people on reserve long-term. Being "Jr" doesn't necessarily mean being new. Why should any pilot have to endure years of reserve treatment when a simple provision like this could make it more palatable.

What happened to helping everyone out? Helping pulling the bottom up when you can? The attitude I see is, "It's not my problem, I won't give up any of my bargaining capital for someone hired even a day after me." Nice attitude.
 
No, what needs to be done is huge improvements to reserve. 13-15 days off, no calling then told to "stand by for an hour" every time your done (expressjet does not have to call just check computer), ability to pick up open time(expressjet has this), ability to pass to next junior reserve, no more than five days on, no ready reserve till midnight on your last day on, no short call on long call, moved days off paid at 150%, pay protection for cx or removed portions of a trip(start a 20hr 4 day then they gut it to 11hr 3 day) expressjet has this, nothing scheduled past 8pm your last night on, can't fly you till midnight-1am for a couple of days then flop you to 4-5am the next 3 days. Most of this is quality of life stuff. What they did to me and the rest of the 50 captains this summer is unacceptable. I want to work while I'm in Atl but not be abused and beaten to a puddle physically and mentally.

So 10 years from now when you're a senior pilot, you would want to sit a month or two a year on reserve? Don't think so.
 
Also, for everybody except a new-hire, reserve is not forced upon anybody.

Anybody on the CR7 on reserve can usually hold a line on the CR2. Any ATL pilot on reserve (seriously, any pilot) can hold a line in IAD. Any captain on reserve could have stayed a senior FO.
